      LSF is looking for a talented ­­­­­­­­­­­­­Afghan School Impact Specialist who wants to make an impact in the lives of others.

      Purpose and Impact:

      The Afghan School Impact Specialist will provide needed assistance to improve the educational achievement of Afghan English Language Learners in grades K-12 by increasing English language proficiency in all four domains and mastery of the same student achievement standards that all children are expected to meet, help them earn a standard high school diploma by meeting concordant scores in grades 9-12.

      Essential Functions:

      • Serves as facilitator for Afghan refugee students.
      • Determine eligibility by requesting the official documents that proof that the participant is eligible for the program.
      • Completes intake/assessment and all documentation for the client in the CMS and WEBRSDS systems.
      • Consults with schoolteachers in relation to lesson plan and curriculum presentation.
      • Consults with the supervisor to discuss issues relating to the client.
      • Participates in case staffing meetings as appropriate.
      • Explains and identifies possible resources for clients when appropriate.
      • Provide information to families or individuals to achieve self-sufficiency, effective resettlement, and ongoing stability.
      • Work in traditional schools and classrooms, in special education, bilingual education, and a variety of other settings.
      • Provide in-school support through “push-in” lessons for high school students, ESOL strategy training, professional development training and follow up.
      • Help prepare instructional materials for students, assist students with their classroom work, and supervise lunchrooms, hallways, and other areas around the school.
      • Meet departmental and program deadlines to ensure contractual compliance with reporting requirements. Regular and punctual attendance.

      Other Functions:

      • Cover classrooms and groups as needed.
      • Assist with training, duplication of materials, setting up, documenting.
      • Help maintain the physical property as needed or assigned.
      • Assist with building positive relations with family members, community members, and funding agencies.
      • Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.

      Physical Requirements:

      • Must be able to read, write, and communicate.
      • While performing the responsibilities of this job, the employee is required to bend, lift, seize, hold, or otherwise work with hand or hands.
      • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.

      Education:

      High school diploma or equivalent.

      Skills:

      • The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented orally and in writing.
      • Ability to work with a challenging student population.
      • Must be bilingual in English/Swahili or any other Congolese dialect.

      Principal Accountabilities:

      • Provides administrative and programmatic support to Teacher.
      • Team player with co-workers.
      • Accurate, complete and timely submission of paperwork.
      • Organized, complete and accurate program files.
      • Adherence to LSF personnel policies and procedures.
