  Position Overview

  The Novelis Ai and Advanced Modeling team in the New Domains is seeking an AI and Machine Learning Co-Op . The person in this role will report to the Lead Scientist. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing computational tools to estimate properties of sustainable aluminum alloys with the aim to build institutional knowledge through constructing process-structure-property relationships. This role is designed to build on the foundation of great team collaboration and strong project management.

  Responsibilities & Qualifications

  Responsibilities:

  • Development of image segmentation models from microstructure images.
  • Development of machine learning models for estimating properties aluminum alloys by building process-structure-property relationships.
  • Collaboration and communication of results with cross-functional teams.
  • Document results of models and developments in technical reports and presentations to stakeholders.
  • Support ongoing modeling activities, including being a proactive member of modeling team.
  • Demonstrate personal commitment to safety by following Novelis safety rules and equipment operating processes. Overall accountability for ensuring safety as the #1 priority.

  Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completed Bachelors or 3rd or 4th year student in Materials Science/Engineering/Physical Sciences with strong programming and computational skills.
  • Computer modeling experience in different time and length scales.
  • Able to work for at least 3 months starting in Spring or Summer 2024

  Preferred Qualifications:

  • Image processing using Python libraries for identifying features.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and advanced visualization using Matplotlib, and relevant libraries.
  • Metallurgical knowledge pertaining material properties including corrosion, formability, and mechanical response.
  • Capability to thrive in team environment, communicate well, and to engage and influence cross-functional teams within the R&D organization.
  • Excellent problem solving, communication and presentation skills.

  What We Offer:

  All full-time co-ops working 30 hours or more per week are eligible to participate in theNovelis Medical Plans. As a co-op you will also be eligible for paid holidays as outlined in the Novelisholiday schedule for the designated location.
