Position Summary

The Wireless Labs department is looking for an innovative AI and machine learning researcher with interest in advanced wireless communication technologies to join our RAN AI/ML project. The role associated to this position is to contribute to the design and standardization of advanced radio techniques for future 3GPP wireless technologies, including the evolution of 5G-Advanced New Radio (NR) and 6G.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated skills for research on novel applications of machine learning techniques and other artificial intelligence technologies with a high interest for its applications to signal processing, wireless communications, and radio access systems.

The tasks will include developing novel ideas and applications of AI/ML to solve complex problems, to optimize a broad range of radio access technologies, to design and train relevant AI/ML models, to prepare simulations, proof-of-concepts and to support related standardization work in 3GPP RAN as part of a broader team of highly skilled researchers that combines wireless, standardization and AI/ML expertise.

Job Description

The candidate will join our 3GPP RAN AI/ML team and contribute in solving challenging problems related to future wireless systems centered around AI/ML applications in the physical radio layer, design of AI-driven mobility optimizations as well as applications of AI/ML to other various wireless techniques.

The candidate will contribute to the 3GPP RAN team:

• By carrying out research on fundamental and/or applied AI/ML techniques when applied to the physical radio layer for the evolution of 5G-Advanced radio technologies, and for 6G and beyond ;

• By conducting evaluation, analysis, and development of innovative AI-driven solutions applicable in L1/PHY such as CSI compression, CSI prediction, beam management and/or positioning ;

• By conducting evaluation, analysis, and development of innovative AI-driven solutions applicable to L1 and/or higher layer mobility ;

• By supporting 3GPP standardization activities through the preparation of AI/ML models, simulations, and contributions in Radio Access Network (RAN) Working Groups (WG).

Qualifications/Requirements

• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Math or other relevant discipline (or similar / equivalent)

• Ph.D. with 0-5 years of relevant experience in the field of machine learning with theoretical understanding of various training methods + neutral networks

• In-depth knowledge in one or more of the following areas: machine learning, deep learning, data mining, optimization

• Hands on experience with ML frameworks such as Pytorch, Tensorflow

• Strong analytical, technical, innovative and leadership skills

• Ability to thrive in a dynamic, innovative, collaborative and team-oriented work environment

• Dedicated, result oriented professional with an attitude for getting the work done

• Willing to take challenges in a fast paced and high-pressure environment

• Strong background in wireless communication and/or signal processing is an advantage

• Experience with design or use of machine learning/deep learning (ML/DL) artificial intelligence (AI) training to improve wireless air interface and system performance is an advantage

• Experience in link level (L1/PHY) and/or system level (L1/PHY, L2/MAC) simulations and proficiency with Matlab is an advantage

• Experience with GitHub/GitLab, NS-3, C/C++ and Python is an advantage
