      This AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (ACCELERATED HIRE) position is located within a National Guard aircraft maintenance organization.

      CALIFORNIA NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the California National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.       Compatible Military Assignment and Grade are required. Military technicians must be assigned to a military position in the same unit which they are employed or, in a unit that is supported by the employing activity. Military technicians must hold the military grade specified for the position.


      Priority Areas(s) of Consideration:

      Priority consideration is first given to the areas below.


      1. AREA I: Current California National Guard employees who are serving on a Permanent/Indefinite/Temporary appointment.
      2. AREA II: Current California National Guard members.
      3. AREA III: Current military members of the Air Force/Army National Guard, Air Force/Army Reserve or Air Force/Army Active Duty. (Applicants who are currently in other Air/Army branches and NOT currently a member of the California National Guard (CNG) must become a member of a compatible unit of assignment within the Air Force CNG commensurate with the military grade listed in this announcement prior to federal assignment).

      Military Grades: E-1 through E-9 or eligible for enlistment.


      Recruitment/Relocation

      Recruitment/Relocation Incentive IS NOT authorized.


      PCS

      Relocation Costs IS NOT authorized based on determination that Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move is not in the Government best interest.


      Must maintain appropriate level of security clearance. Must wear appropriate military uniform including required grooming standards. Must maintain a compatible military unit, grade and job assignment as required by current directives. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.


      Security Clearance: at a minimum a National Agency Check is required.


      Qualifications


      General Experience: Experience or training that has provided the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications; Skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.


      AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (ACCELERATED HIRE), WG-8852-05: Must have at least 6 months experience using common hand tools in making repetitive mechanical repairs under close supervision; Experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the simpler and routine duties of the trade.


      AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (ACCELERATED HIRE), WG-8852-08: Must have at least 12 months experience using common hand tools to make mechanical repairs; Experience removing and installing aircraft parts, components and accessories with detailed guidance; Experience in following detailed instructions in making routine, reoccurring repairs and modifications to aircraft parts, subassemblies and components, e.g. such as jacking and leveling aircraft, installing and adjusting engines, landing gear assemblies, instrument panels, and flight control systems.


      AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (ACCELERATED HIRE), WG-8852-10: Must have at least 18 months experience installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification; Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow; Ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.


      TRAINEE POSITION: Applicants not meeting full qualifications for the WG-10 position indicated above may be considered for WG-05/08 trainee, if qualified. Statement-of-Difference of qualification requirements for each are indicated. If appointed as trainee, the selectee may be non-competitively promoted to WG-10 upon meeting full qualifications and recommendations of supervisor.
