      About us:

      The Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto is a research-led Faculty, educating the next generation of leaders in information scholarship and the information professions, both established and emerging. Our researchers and graduates are recognized for their innovation, experimentation, human-centred perspectives and commitment to community.

      The Faculty, which will celebrate its centenary in 2028, has built on its heritage strengths in libraries, archives and museums to incorporate scientific and technological expertise from engineering, computer science, and other disciplines. At the same time, it has committed itself to applying social, political, and cultural perspectives from media arts, humanities, and social science to the study of information, technology, people and the relationships among them.

      The Faculty currently offers two Master’s degree programs, namely, a Master of Museum Studies (MMSt),and a Master of Information (MI), as well as a Combined MI/MMSt Degree Program (CDP). The Faculty also offers a PhD program and in 2019 it introduced a Bachelor of Information (BI) program.

      MI Students can specialize in one or two concentrations including Archives and Records Management, Library and Information Sciences, Information Systems and Design, User Experience Design and Human-Centred Data Science.

      A top tier school, the Faculty of Information is consistently ranked in the top five Library and Information Management graduate programs by the QS world university rankings. The QS rankings include both Master’s and PhD level programs.

      Your opportunity:

      The Advancement office is responsible for fundraising and alumni engagement efforts for the Faculty of Information. The advancement staff work to solicit financial contributions to support the Faculty and its academic and co-curricular priorities. Through a range of programs, events and special initiatives, we raise awareness among current and prospective donors, alumni, volunteers and friends regarding the importance of investing in the Faculty and our students. Our office engages in cultivating and sustaining strong relationships with all stakeholders and building on the positive associations our alumni have with the University.

      Reporting to the Associate Director, Advancement, and working on a high-performing team of advancement professionals, the Alumni Engagement Officer is responsible for all programming and delivery related to alumni relations. This includes, but is not limited to, Alumni Reunion, alumni newsletters, special Faculty events (eg. named lectures), UofT-wide recognition programs (eg. Arbor Awards), one-off engagement opportunities that reflect curricular and co-curricular priorities, and working closely with and advising the alumni association. The Alumni Engagement Officer leads new initiatives to engage alumni and community stakeholders, encourage volunteerism, and drive revenue-generation.


      Your responsibilities will include:

      • Developing and implementing alumni engagement activities that support strategic objectives
      • Assessing needs and contributing to the development and implementation of plans for prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and recognition
      • Advising alumni association and their working committees on the development of programs, events and activities
      • Conceptualizing, organizing and executing event activities
      • Promoting financial giving and volunteer service opportunities at the University
      • Developing content for marketing and/or promotional materials

      Essential Qualifications:

      • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
      • Minimum three years' experience in cultivating relationships with key partners (ie. students, alumni, donors, faculty, staff) in programming ideally within the realms of Alumni Relations or Advancement, and in the conception and leadership of diverse alumni programs, fundraising campaigns and initiatives.
      • Demonstrated experience conceptualizing, organizing and executing multiple projects/events and meeting prescribed deadlines.
      • Demonstrated experience assessing needs and contributing to the development and implementation of plans for prospect indentification.
      • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing alumni engagement activities.
      • Demonstrated experience advising alumni association committees and their working committees on the development of programs and initiatives.
      • Demonstrated experience developing content for marketing and/or promotional materials.
      • Demonstrated experience promoting financial giving and volunteer service opportunities.
      • Strong computer skills with demonstrated knowledge of MS Office Suite, email and databases
      • Exceptional relationship management and customer services skills to help maintain ongoing relationships with people whose co-operation is important to the University.
      • High level of attention to detail with superiortime-management skills.
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
      • Strong interpersonal skills; able to interact successfully with alumni, peers, volunteers, prospects, donors, staff and faculty.
      • Professional presentation,demeanor and confident; establish credibility and trust quickly with internal and external stakeholders


      Assets (Nonessential):

      • Familiarity with ARBOR or database management systems.
      • Experience with Canva, InDesign, Adobe Illustrator or other create design applications.
      • Experience with Mailchimp, Survey Monkey or other platforms.
      • Experience with Zoom or other virtual meeting platforms.
      • Email marketing experience.
      • Understanding of/affinity for contributing to the advancement of the information field as it relates to the Faculty’s fields of study
      • Familiarity working in a university or educational environment

      Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
      USW Pay Band 14 -- $88,290 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $112,911. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
