- Deliver in the moment and pre-scheduled ASL interpretation within the office environment of the Division of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures which includes highly complex materials in various settings such as employee appointments, ongoing communication with Division Director, faculty meetings and trainings, DWLLC events, and other activities as necessary.
- o Includes interpreting for world language credit elective (taught in English) and office hours for course.
- Deliver pre-scheduled ASL interpretation for other campus units as coordinated and assigned by DWLLC Staff Program Coordinator.
- Attend faculty meetings and take notes.
- Support DWLLC Staff Program Coordinator with ASL Program administrative duties as assigned.
- Support DWLLC Staff Program Coordinator with the coordination/preparation of strategic plans in relation to ASL interpreter needs.
- Partner with DWLLC Staff Program Coordinator to provide direction and integrative coordination in the planning, development, and implementation of a vocabulary development program for staff, to include training on common phrases used in the workplace in ASL and other languages taught throughout the DWLLC.
- Support DWLLC Staff Program Coordinator with liaison work with ASL agencies regarding programs or services needed within the ASL program, including events or meetings that might have the need for multiple interpreters and offices on campus as assigned.

Maintain skills required for position, including participation in professional development opportunities and or training courses (CEUs) to stay current in the field.

- Partner with DWLLC Staff Program Coordinator to evaluate ASL interpreting services within the DWLLC and in connection to the CLAS Dean’s Office. Analyze data for quality improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with CLCL on needs for the ASL program, bridging the connection between academic and daily operation communication.
- Partner with DWLLC Staff Program Coordinator to educate and improve modes and best format of standard communication between CLAS and Deaf Faculty.
- Support DWLLC Staff Program Coordinator with ASL interpreting needs throughout the DWLLC and enhance team education on knowledge of ASL Deaf Culture within an office environment.
- Partner with DWLLC Staff Program Coordinator to ensure compliance with DEI initiatives and UI policies and procedures in regard to interpreting services, collaborating with campus stakeholders in developing a sustainable and more inclusive model for ASL interpreters.
- Bachelor’s degree in ASL Interpretation, or a Liberal Arts discipline in hand by start date; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must hold a permanent License by the Iowa Department of Public Health as a Sign Language Interpreter/Transliterator.
- Ability to provide competent signed interpreting services in a variety of operational contexts.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft computer software applications and have the ability to adapt to technology systems established on campus.
- Minimum of 3 years professional experience as a certified interpreter working in a variety of settings such as a post-secondary educational environment, employee appointments, events, and other activities.
- Holds the National Interpreter Certification (NIC), Certification of Interpretation (CI) or Certification of Transliteration (CT) offered by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), or BEI Advanced/Master, or received an EIPA 4.5 or above and is willing to obtain RID certification within the first 5 years of employment.
- Minimum score of 3 on the ASLPI or willingness to obtain this ASLPI score within the first academic year.
- Demonstrated experience fostering or promoting a welcoming and respectful work/academic environment.
- Minimum of 1-year administrative experience in an academic environment.

A member of the Division of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures (DWLLC) main office staff, this position serves as the American Sign Language (ASL) on site interpreter. When not scheduled to interpret, this position completes tasks as assigned by the DWLLC Staff Program Coordinator that support the needs of the Division and more specifically ASL. Standard work schedule is 20 hours during Monday–Friday, 8:00AM–5:00PM; however, this position will require work done outside of standard business hours and some weekends based on needs for employee accommodations.
