      This opening can be filled in a remote/work-from-home (WFH) capacity, or in one of our offices, though regular work hours must take place within 8:00am - 5:30pm Eastern, with a few times each month working until 5:30pm Eastern (if not already aligned to regular work schedule).

      Commercial Lines insurance experience required for consideration. The most ideal candidates will have at least 2 years of commercial underwriting experience.

      Please note: P&C License and Surplus Lines License in resident state (if required by product line) are required within 90 days from start.

      Job Description Summary

      Nationwide Brokerage Solutions (NBS) cares for customers by making it easier for insurance agents to access a broad range of solutions offered by Nationwide and other carriers. In addition, we collaborate with teams across Nationwide to drive innovations in insurance distribution.

      As a Brokerage Placement Analyst, you will provide the “running start” for the brokerage team. Researching opportunities will allow you to refine your analytical skills and provide ground-level support to agent and carrier consultations to drive growth.

      Job Description

      Key Responsibilities:

      • Researches agency, carrier and market information from published sources and company databases. Partners with sales, agency and other internal and external sources to perform analysis and identify business trends and opportunities for profitable growth.

      • Reviews individual risks for acceptability and handles those within authority, based on carrier underwriting guidelines and standards. Assesses the total risk proposition and alternatives for acceptability. May analyze issues related to rules performance through automated systems.

      • Completes assigned underwriting and placement actions and tasks within established time and service standards. Strives to complete all interactions in a first-time-final mode. Monitors the submission and/or the renewal process and frames and expedites individual accounts when required.

      • Makes decisions to accept, modify or decline business according to established carrier underwriting policies, practices and standards of markets represented. Determines the accurate classification of risks to ensure the matching of price and product to the customer.

      • Plans completion of assignments to meet agreed upon timelines and service level agreements. Ensures coordination of own work with broader team and business unit priorities.

      • Consults with agents and collaborates with internal and external partners regarding risk and placement strategies. Uses brokerage placement acuity to recommend additional products, coverages and discounts to ensure the agency and customer receive maximum value and adequate coverage. May participate in the management of agency performance as part of the brokerage team. May consult regarding risk mitigation strategies.

      • Works with leaders and peers and other departments to share information about business in process and initiate referrals. Partners with agents and carriers to secure additional information required to secure the placement. Communicates with carriers' functional departments about policy issues, rates, endorsements, corrections or changes, providing clear rationale for decisions and options.

      • Strengthens existing relationships to promote new business growth, profit, retention and service capabilities.

      • Responds to requests from agents and external carrier partners with resolution. May handle sophisticated customer service issues based on authority level. Routes issues outside of authority level to appropriate individuals within the team.

      • Participates in training classes, job shadowing, department and company meetings. Provides product education to agencies regarding carrier and program guidelines. May mentor and participate in training of less experienced associates.

      May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

      Reporting Relationships: Reports to a Manager or Supervisor; Individual contributor role.

      Typical Skills and Experience:


      Education: Undergraduate studies in business administration or related field of study; degree preferred.

      License/ Certification/Designation: Pursuit of technical insurance coursework preferred. Property and casualty license required within 90 days of hire.

      Experience: Two years of related insurance experience preferred. Will consider undergraduate degree in lieu of experience.

      Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Understanding of brokerage placement programs and techniques. Acquires and maintains an understanding and adheres to state specific statutes involving underwriting, applicable insurance laws and regulations. Ability to identify, evaluate, analyze and recommend solutions to insurance needs. Verbal and written communication skills to interact, influence and negotiate with internal/external business partners. Ability to learn job-related software. Key proficiencies include: product acuity, functional/technical skills, command and consultation skills, interpersonal savvy, negotiating, consulting, problem solving, drive for results, handling and measuring work, and decision quality. Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing situations.

      Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

      Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Occasional travel may be required to visit agencies or attend meetings. Extended and/or non standard work hours as required to meet business needs.

      Nationwide pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. If a Sales job, Sales Incentives, based on performance goals are possible in addition to this range.

      The national salary range for Analyst, Brokerage Placement : $42,315.00-$87,300.00

      The expected starting salary range for Analyst, Brokerage Placement : $47,000.00 - $70,400.00
