      Job Description

      This position will play a prominent role in the Credit Risk Management (CRM) group’s responsibility to develop, modify and provide credit risk oversight, through partnership with subject matter experts across the organization. This role will focus on ensuring the risk appetite, proper controls, accountabilities, and authorities, are clear and concise and aligned with the risk statements provided by management and the Manulife Board.

      Responsibilities:

      1) Help maintain the Credit Risk Framework for the General Account Business

      • Aid in the development and maintenance of the organization’s credit risk framework (i.e. investment guidelines, policies, procedures, documentation, limits, rating methodologies, etc.) on a timely basis
      • Support the credit function and framework in conjunction with portfolio growth. General Account invested assets include: fixed income, commercial mortgages, public equities and alternative long-duration assets (i.e. real estate and other invested assets)
      • Identify and eliminate gaps in current state of policies and procedural documentation. Research, share and implement credit risk management best practices

      2) Support the growth of the General Account portfolio in Asia

      • Maintain oversight of credit and credit related products that impact the Asia business (for example investments in Sovereign Owned Entities and regional and local governments)
      • Assist with the review and updating of investment guidelines / investment policies for the various Asian subsidiaries
      • Oversee the growth of and any investment shifts in the General Account portfolio in the various Asian jurisdictions (for example ongoing shift from government to corporate bonds)

      3) Conduct Financial and Data Analysis

      • Conduct financial analysis of corporations, to determine financial performance, balance sheet strength, liquidity, cash flow generating ability and investment suitability
      • Assist with the ongoing stress testing of the General Account portfolio
      • Undertake ongoing and ad hoc General Account portfolio data analysis, presenting data as information using PowerPoints, dashboards, Power BI reports, etc.

      4) Complete various ad-hoc projects as required and assist with the day-to-day activities performed by CRM

      • Participate in joint Credit Risk/Financial Risk/IT Management projects, in order to develop reports and analysis for Senior Management
      • Assist in the preparation of the Credit Committee (CC) materials (such as agenda and minutes), review material submitted and assist in the timely circulation of CC material packages to CC members
      • Assist with miscellaneous activities performed by CRM, such as: ad hoc stress testing
      • Take the lead or provide support with special requests from OSFI, credit rating agencies, Senior Management, etc.
      • Keep up-to-date on market developments which may impact Manulife’s investment portfolio

      What we are looking for:

      • Degree in business, economics, accounting or actuarial science (or related discipline)
      • Recent graduate, with up to 2 years of work experience in credit risk management or asset/investment management
      • Working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access) and PowerApps.
      • Strong communication skills (oral and written), as well as solid presentation skills; collaborative approach and strong interpersonal skills
      • Ability to summarize a large amount of information into concise reports and presentations for senior management
      • Excellent technical, analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to deal with large amounts of information and to summarize effectively
      • Strong prioritization skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
      • Understanding of finance and accounting principles.
      • Ability to understand a wide variety of complicated investment products.

      Salary & Benefits

      The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

      Primary Location

      Toronto, Ontario

      Salary range is expected to be between

      $58,650.00 CAD - $97,750.00 CAD
