      Analyst, Energy Scheduler - West

      Location: New York, NY or Gatineau, Quebec

      Brookfield Renewable is looking for an individual with interests in wholesale energy markets who will be responsible for various functions associated with scheduling physical energy flows and flow optimization across energy markets in the Western U.S. The candidate would join the Brookfield Renewable U.S. team as a West Scheduling Analyst.

      The individual will also participate in portfolio and trading analysis/reporting, with responsibility for developing and maintaining tools related to both energy market analysis, energy market scheduling, and position management.

      The Energy Trading Scheduler will be part of the commercial team, working under the supervision of the Director of Trading for West Markets, and will support various wholesale and retail energy transactions across the business.

      Responsibilities

      • Prepare and validate physical energy schedules by taking into consideration market fundamentals and transmission related constraints;
      • Submit and validate market schedules for all energy related products;
      • Coordinate and schedule all physical power, ancillary services, capacity, physical transmission with trading counterparts and balancing authorities;
      • Assist in and lead (when assigned) the development of various energy market tools; these include product valuation models, portfolio optimization models, and wholesale power scheduling applications;
      • Ensure positions across all West portfolios and transactions are properly accounted for and optimized appropriately;
      • Become proficient in understanding physical power flows across the Western Interconnection;
      • Assist the trading team with energy optimization strategies and daily analysis related to market fundamentals, trading and hedging across Brookfield’s renewable energy portfolio;
      • Develop expertise in Brookfield’s ETRM system, acting as a subject matter expert for the commercial team;
      • Respond to internal requests from other functional areas for data, analysis and commercial due diligence.

      Qualifications

      • Able to meet multiple objectives in a dynamic, fast-paced, team environment;
      • Ability to make decisions involving varied levels of risk and ambiguity;
      • Well-organized and ability to synthesize and conceptualize complex ideas;
      • Extremely detail-oriented
      • Comfortable working with large data sets;
      • Strong team player with solid analytical skills and strong attention to detail;
      • Excellent written and oral communications skills;
      • Self-motivated with demonstrated initiative;
      • Growth mindset, able to solicit and provide feedback to others

      Required Skills and/or Experience

      • Bachelor`s degree in finance, economics, engineering, mathematics, computer science, information technology, or other related discipline;
      • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel;

      NYC Salary: $75,000 - $85,000
