The Analyst Process Engineer applies professional and technical engineering expertise in the delivery of value stream improvements, operational performance (cost, quality, time) and resource optimization (equipment, people, money) initiatives. Leads or partners in the analysis, development and deployment of regional and local projects and/or is accountable for specified deliverables in national and cross-functional projects. Ensures the correct application of engineering principles to continuous improvement projects, and that solutions are designed in accordance with the Engineering Design Process. Guides the technical work of first level process engineering team members.
Job Responsibilities
Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Analyst, Process Engineering.
1. Provides broad experience and sound technical, business and problem analysis to improve operational performance of value streams and shared business processes. Demonstrates expertise, innovative thinking and initiative in the analysis, planning and deployment of projects approved by Operations regionally or nationally.
2. Provides work methods design expertise to value stream improvement teams at the process or task level to promote efficiency, productivity and safety; evaluates flow constraints within the value stream to increase productivity, or reduce cost and lead time.
3. Supports and/or leads project teams within the Region. Provides regional and local engineering expertise in national engineering projects and deploys national projects regionally and locally. Applies professional project management skills ensuring that all approved projects are delivered on-time and on-budget; tracks and reports regularly to senior management and project sponsors on project status and benefits. Integrates change management into all project plans, ensuring that all stakeholder needs are identified, that proper communication occurs and that operational staff is educated or trained in new methods or process requirements.
4. Applies thorough knowledge and experience with the principles of Lean, Six Sigma and Process Management as the foundation of the Engineering Design Process, in problem solving and continuous improvement activities and documents solutions in accordance with these principles. Applies Project Management methods and tools within the Engineering Design Process to all assigned projects. Continues to develop professional and technical knowledge and skills and promotes continuous improvement.
5. Develops Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for all business processes and value streams and ensures that SOPs are documented in accordance with national configuration control standards.

6. Oversees the collection of data required for various projects and conducts studies or analyses using this data. Develops computer applications to expedite activities and maintains program documentation.
7. Uses proven simulation and project management tools in the analysis of business solutions and provides comprehensive reports and recommendations. Provides engineering expertise in the use of proper technology to assess space requirements, work methods and health and safety solutions.
8. Uses proven financial evaluation methods and data-based engineering analyses to properly evaluate project feasibility, risks and benefits; participates in cost reduction efforts by analyzing proposals to determine viability, operations impact and return on investment.
9. Analyzes and recommends changes to the work environment to improve employee comfort and performance (lighting, noise, cleanliness); recommends changes to the form, fit or function of tools and equipment used by employees at their workstations to make the work easier from a human factors perspective.
10. Consults, informs and works with local or regional union representatives as guided by regional Labour Relations to ensure open and transparent communication on projects that are approved for implementation. Represents the project team or engineering group in meetings with various stakeholders.
Qualifications
Education
• A University or College degree/diploma in a related field.
• Designation and or certifications programs may be required e.g. a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license in Canada.
Experience
• 2-5 years of related work experience is required.Other Candidate Requirements
• Thorough knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma and Process Management.
• Above average skills with Microsoft suite of tools such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint,
• Working knowledge of query languages such as MS Access and SQL Server.
• Familiarity with working in a union environment.
• Ability to influence others and negotiate successfully, communicate ideas and generate consensus.
• Excellent professional presentation and verbal communication skills.
• Skilled at identifying customer needs and designing business processes and solutions to meet customer requirements.
• Demonstrates innovative thinking and initiative in the analysis, planning and development of projects.
