What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Provide expert advice to National Program 103 scientists on research and countermeasures for priority foreign and domestic animal diseases
- Support ARS administrators and NP 103 national program leaders in technology transfer of ARS countermeasures
- Assist in establishing strategic public-private partnerships for the development of countermeasures against priority animal diseases
- Address emerging issues as needed, providing expert advice and support to relevant stakeholders
- Contribute to the advancement of research, infrastructural, service, and training programs within USDA/ARS National Program 103
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Minimum of 25 years of experience in Animal Health Research and Development, with expertise in Viral Diseases and Foreign Animal Diseases, or a PhD in a related field
- Professional knowledge and demonstrated experience in modern science and technology related to animal health, vaccine development, and microbiology
- Proven track record of authorship in scientific publications and recognized contributions to the field
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with researchers, stakeholders, and international contacts
- Proficiency in using Windows and MS Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience in formulating recommendations on specialized and complex animal diseases
- Ability to lead and chair groups of technical experts for national research program coordination
- Knowledge of management and administrative principles for long-range program planning and evaluation
- Familiarity with the latest technical developments in animal health research globally
- Established interpersonal skills to work cooperatively with various agencies and industry groups
