      Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Animal Services Coordinator for a 6-month Special Duty Assignment (SDA). This recruitment is only open to current King County employees.

      Success in this position requires the ability to interact with a variety of people effectively and positively in a diverse work environment as well as attention to detail and accuracy on detailed work tasks, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work with little direct supervision. Successful candidates will possess the ability to complete tasks quickly with limited guidance, react with appropriate urgency to situations that require a quick turnaround.

      The Animal Services Coordinator will have a mix of administrative support work combined with direct animal. Our successful candidate will coordinate programs and initiatives to improve animal outcomes which may include partnering with other organizations, developing enrichment activities for shelter animals, behavior modification for shelter animals and working with volunteers.

      ABOUT RECORDS & LICENSING SERVICES (RALS)

      The Records and Licensing Services Division (RALS) is a division of the Department of Executive Services.

      RALS operates within a statutory framework that is prescribed by state law and county code. Many of the services administered by the division are mandated by state law, and are provided in King County on a regional basis across jurisdictional boundaries. RALS also provides certain local services to unincorporated King County and by contract with many local municipalities throughout King County. In addition, RALS is responsible for providing internal services that are necessary for purposes of business efficiency and meeting various legal responsibilities.

      RALS is responsible for:

      • Recording documents related to real property sales and other transactions and making them accessible for members of the public, businesses, and other government agencies
      • Collecting and dispersing real estate excise tax payments on the conveyance of real property in King County
      • Providing licensing and information services and promoting public safety by administering and enforcing vehicle and vessel licensing and taxi and transportation network company (TNC) regulations
      • Providing internal mail services and physical and electronic records management services to all county agencies
      • Providing animal care and control services for the protection of property, human health, and safety and promoting responsible pet ownership and animal welfare through education and licensing programs via public and private sector partnerships

      SCOPE OF JOB DUTIES– To be considered minimally qualified, applicants must demonstrate a background that provides the knowledge, skill, and ability to:

      • Develop and coordinate programs to promote positive outcomes for shelter animals.
      • Receive and release animals per established policies and procedures.
      • Answer general inquiries from the public.
      • Educate the public on animal behavior, care, training, laws and policies; assist potential adopters in selecting animals.
      • Prepare and issue adoption, redemption and transfer paperwork; release animals and sell pet licenses.
      • Clean and sanitize to maintain a healthy and humane environment for animals, employees and visitors.
      • Coordinate adoption events; calendar and create outreach documents, communicate with partners.
      • Ensure adoptable pets are advertised or promoted online with partner organizations and website/social media.
      • Provide administrative support for various RASKC programs.

      We are looking for candidates who:

      • Experienced in animal care and treatment experience OR any combination of experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the job duties of the position.
      • Have knowledge of procedures and techniques for safe animal handling, identification and humane treatment including wild animals.
      • Are comfortable around animals and potential exposure to bites or scratches.
      • Are interested in working directly with our diverse community, providing quality customer service by responding to complaints, inquiries, and problems using effective listening and clear communication.
      • Are able to maintain composure under difficult and stressful situations.
      • Are skilled in engaging and building relationships with colleagues, staff and community members.
      • Will be customer focused, culturally aware, and comfortable talking about equity and social justice.

      Work Schedule: The typical work schedule for this position is Monday – Friday; 8:00am – 5:00pm but is subject to change based on operational needs. This position is Non-Exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and therefore is overtime eligible. Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule, every other Thursday.
