Under limited supervision, performs managerial work overseeing the operation of the Animal Services Division.
**Salary will be determined depending on qualifications of candidates who exceed the minimum requirements as outlined within the job description.
**Additional compensation based on licensure.

Maintains responsibility for overall operation of the Animal Services Division, including the animal shelter; adoption, redemption, and disposal of animals; enforcement of the Animal Control Ordinance; and record maintenance for all operations within the Division.
Ensures enforcement of state and local codes and regulations for the quarantine of animals, rabies control, animal capture, impoundment, and care of animals.
Ensures that citations are issued in accordance with the Animal Control Ordinance.
Develops procedures to ensure fees for the pet licensing of animals and commercial animal kennels are collected and deposited in accordance with County procedures.
Oversees and controls divisional budget development and administration.
Ensures appropriate training is provided to staff relative to the safe and proper handling of animals, maintenance of the animal shelter facility, proper pick-up and impoundment procedures, and care of impounded animals.
Ensures appropriate recordkeeping and record maintenance procedures are in place and followed.
Directs animal cruelty investigations and develops material for use in prosecution of animal cruelty cases. Conducts investigations into animal bite cases and dangerous dog cases.
Initiates, and effectively recommends for final approval by the department director, hiring, termination, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions and/or commendatory actions for assigned personnel.
Develops divisional operating policies and procedures and make recommendations to the Department Director on changes in operations and/or services provided.
Prepares news releases to keep the public informed regarding animal control services, the availability of animals for adoption, to assist in locating animals involved in bite cases, and to advise the public of animal quarantines, as necessary, to prevent the spread of disease.

Performs other related work as required.
In the event of emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, or a field closely related to Animal Control. Preference will be given to persons with five (5) years of experience dealing with animals and the public in a responsible supervisory position required. A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Must possess and maintain Florida Animal Control Association's Certification as a Euthanasia Technician, or have the ability to become so certified within six (6) months of employment.
Must be inoculated against rabies prior to completion of probationary period.
Must successfully complete the Florida Animal Control Association's Officer Certification course within one (1) year of employment.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class "D" Driver's License.
Thorough knowledge of the laws and regulations regarding animal control. Extensive knowledge of the proper transport and impoundment process for all animal species (i.e., domestic, wild, and exotic). Knowledge of animal behavior and animal disease and prevention measures. Knowledge of the use of and techniques for administering tranquilizer and euthanasia medications.
Ability to communicate clearly and precisely both orally and in writing. Ability to make presentations to large and small groups. Ability to effectively lead subordinate personnel. Ability to deal effectively with customers and establish and maintain good relations with the general public and local veterinarians. Ability to instruct others in animal care and control procedures.
Skill in handling animals that may be dangerous or vicious without injury to self, others, or the animal. Considerable skill in selecting the proper type of tranquilizing and euthanasia medication to be used, determining correct dosage, and administering medications.About the company
