      MONTHLY SALARY RANGE:
      Animal Services Officer: $4,040.98 - $4,247.22 - $4,464.60 - $4,694.52 - $4,934.20 - $5,187.80
      Senior Animal Services Officer: $4,742.88 - $4,984.90 - $5,241.36 - $5,509.68 - $5,791.16 - $6,088.40

      FUTURE SALARY INCREASES:
      • Effective 7/1/2024, 3% Cost of Living Adjustment
      • Effective 7/1/2025, 3% Cost of Living Adjustment
      INCENTIVES FOR NEW EMPLOYEES:
      • Sign on Bonus - $2,000
      FUTURE INCENTIVES:
      • Employees employed as of 7/1/2024 will receive $2,000 lump sum
      • Employees employed as of 7/1/2025 will receive $2,000 lump sum

      TENTATIVE EXAMINATION DATE: Week of March 11, 2024 (Candidates must appear in person for the examination.)
      The Animal Services Section of the Stockton Police Department is currently recruiting for the position of Animal Services Officer. The Animal Services Officer will enforce City laws regarding stray, dangerous and nuisance domestic and wild animals; investigate complaints and perform related work as assigned. The incumbent will work a flexible schedule.

      Incumbents in this position are included in the Civil Service system and are in a "for-cause" employment status represented by the Stockton City Employees' Association Bargaining Unit. (Classified/Represented)

      This recruitment is being conducted as an Open/Promotional recruitment. Current regular full-time City of Stockton employees, at time of application, may apply for this position as a promotional opportunity and successful candidates will be placed on a promotional list. All other candidates may apply for this position as an open competitive opportunity and successful candidates will be placed on an open list. The appointing authority will have the option of requesting names from the promotional list or a combination of both.

      Prior to appointment, eligible candidates may be required to submit to and successfully pass a background investigation, which will include fingerprinting and a medical examination which includes a back evaluation.

      Under general supervision, enforces City laws regarding stray, dangerous and nuisance domestic and wild animals; investigates complaints; patrols assigned areas; captures animals; performs other duties related to humane animal protection and service; performs related work as assigned.

      Possession of a high school diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience in animal care or services or law enforcement. Additional course work or training in animal control, animal behavior, public relations, and/or law enforcement is desirable.

      Licensure/Certification :

      • Must possess a valid California driver's license.
      • As a condition of continued employment, must possess or obtain within twelve (12) months of appointment, California Penal Code 832 Certificate; and must possess or obtain within eighteen (18) months of appointment required training in accordance with Title 16, Section 2039 of the California Code of Regulations and the State of California Corporations Code, Section 14502. State of California Corporations Code, Section 14502 re-certification must be maintained.
      • As a condition of continued employment, must possess or obtain within twelve (12) months of appointment Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substances Permit (VACSP).

      Other Requirements :

      • Must be willing to obtain a pre-exposure rabies vaccination, and, when medically required, revaccination shots; and
      • Must be willing to work shifts or alternative schedules and be available for 24-hour emergency call back.

      The Examination:

      Applicants who qualify in terms of relevant work experience and education, that best fit the needs of the City, will be invited to participate in the examination process. The examination process may include a written, training and experience or oral examination weighted 100%. However, the City reserves the right to utilize alternative testing methods if deemed necessary. Candidates must receive a minimum passing score of 70%, as determined by the relative performance of all candidates in all portions of the examination. In the event of identical ratings, candidates' names will be arranged in order of application date/time, and, if the same, then arranged alphabetically.
