UA is responsible for the holistic review of domestic and international first-year applications to the Columbus Campus. This comprehensive and holistic review allows UA and the University to enroll an incoming class that is academically talented and diverse; one that will not only succeed but also thrive at The Ohio State University. The application reviewer position is a holistic evaluation source for many domestic and international applications for undergraduate admission to The Ohio State University. This review is based on extensive training, written guidelines, and best practices set forth by Undergraduate Admissions, Strategic Enrollment Management, and the University’s Strategic Enrollment Plan. Application reviewers are expected to exhibit the behaviors associated with the office’s core competencies which include but are not limited to attention to detail, independent decision making, collaboration, change management, continuous improvement, and personal accountability.
The application review season begins in October and ends in March. The work is cyclical, and most duties can be accomplished remotely. Files are assigned weekly via an online secure review site; once completed, recommendations are submitted electronically. The application reviewer is required to enter recommendations for completed reviews into the review site on a weekly basis. Application reviewers are also required to attend and participate in monthly trainings and individual coaching sessions, and other meetings as needed during normal university business hours. Any absence requests from required trainings must be submitted and approved in advance. It is the reviewer’s responsibility to remain up to date with procedural and guideline changes provided by UA. Opportunities for professional development during the admission season are offered. Throughout the admissions process, reviewers are required to ensure confidentiality and security of the admissions process, files, and university materials.
Reviewers are expected to work approximately 14-18 hours per week, with some weeks during November through January requiring up to 20 hours. Reviewers are compensated at an hourly rate. Reviewers will conduct a holistic review on average of 80 files a week with some weeks during November through January requiring additional files. Candidates must commit to completing the needed files per week and attending all virtual and on-campus required trainings and meetings. Reviewers will use University issued equipment.
Essential functions of the successful candidate in the position include but are not limited to:
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree, preferably in counseling, human relations, or education. Knowledge of college/university policies and procedures. Familiarity with recruitment and counseling practices at higher education institutions desired. Recent college admission, high school guidance experience or high school teaching experience preferred. Previous application reviewing experience desired.
Desired Qualifications:
Reasonable knowledge of student counseling or guidance practices and familiarity with review and evaluation of written material is necessary. This position requires successful completion of a background check.
Additional Information:
This is a remote position with occasional opportunities to come in-person to the Columbus Campus. There are 35 available openings. The pay range for this job profile is $15.29- $20.41-$25.53 (pay grade min-mid-max). The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
An OSU staff member may have multiple positions provided the sum total of the positions does not exceed 100% full-time equivalency (FTE) and the position combination is consistent with the following principles:
