      Job summary

      We are seeking a clinical psychologist, counselling psychologist or accredited psychological therapist with a keen interest in severe mental illness to join the team delivering psychological services across South East Hampshire.

      The post is based partially (0.6 wte) in the acute service based at Elmleigh, Havant and partially (0.4 wte) in the Bordon & Petersfield Community Mental Health Team, which is based in Petersfield Hospital.

      We are looking for someone who can demonstrate an interest in working with people with SMI, who is able to work flexibly within an MDT, and who has well developed interpersonal skills. The post holder will carry their own caseload, provide clinical supervision and support the MDT in the development of formulation driven interventions.

      We have well established clinical supervision structures and an excellent track record of CPD, as well as good links with Southampton University, particularly with the Doctoral Programme in Clinical Psychology and the Post Graduate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Programme. You will be professionally and line managed by the Lead Psychologist for Acute Mental Health Care. You will also be part of Portsmouth & South East Hampshire Psychological Services.

      Main duties of the job

      To provide highly specialist psychological assessment and intervention people/clients who fall within the acceptance criteria of the Portsmouth and South East Hants (PSEH) Acute Mental Health Care Service (Elmleigh Hospital and Crisis and Home Treatment Team) for three days a week and clients from Community Mental Health Services for two days a week

      To offer short-term input to clients to enable them to move through the service with a strong emphasis on assisting clients to learn from their crisis and help to work towards early discharge. Work will also involve working with other people involved in clients' care (e.g. family). A recovery focused approach is essential. Time limited evidence based psychological therapy will be implemented in the CMHT setting.

      To operate as an autonomous practitioner working within professional guidelines and the organisational structure of the service's policies and procedures. The post holder will place an emphasis on co-production and demonstrate an attitude which respects and values clients and their carers and the core values of the trust: patients and people first; partnership; and respect.

      Clinical advice, supervision, teaching, support and communication are integral to the role.

      Participation in research, evaluation and audit is expected.

      The post holder will work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equal opportunities.
