      We are looking for a customer obsessed Applied Scientist who can apply the latest research, state of the art algorithms and machine learning to build highly scalable systems in the international e-Commerce space. Right candidate will develop algorithms and models to handle unique cross border shopping problems such as sharper shipping charges, ML driven custom duties, sharper prices, improve selection data quality, improved product discovery or offering scalable, highly localized customer experience to name few.

      As a member of our team you will develop and evaluate machine learning models using large data-sets, cloud services, customer behavior, transactional history to improve our customer’s experience. Working closely with best-in-class engineers you will have the opportunity to apply a variety of machine learning algorithms, including deep learning, and work on one of the world's largest data sets to influence the long term evolution of our technology roadmap. You will need to be entrepreneurial, able to deal with ambiguity and work in a highly collaborative environment.

      We like to move fast, experiment, iterate and then scale quickly, thoughtfully balancing speed and quality.

      Responsibilities include:
      - Design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain innovative data and machine learning solutions to accelerate our business.
      - Create experiments and prototype implementations of new learning algorithms and prediction techniques
      - Collaborate with scientists, engineers, product managers, and stockholders to design and implement software solutions for science problems
      - Use machine learning best practices to ensure a high standard of quality for all of the team deliverables

      We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

      Seattle, WA, USA | Sumner, WA, USA- Master's degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, machine learning or equivalent quantitative field
      - Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
      - 3+ years of hands-on experience in predictive modeling and analysis
      - 1+ years of professional experience in software development
      - Proficiency in model development, model validation and model implementation for large-scale applications
      - Ability to convey mathematical results to non-science stakeholders. Strength in clarifying and formalizing complex problems
      - Superior verbal and written communication and presentation skills, ability to convey rigorous mathematical concepts and considerations to non-experts- Experience implementing algorithms using both toolkits and self-developed code
      - Have publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
      - Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Operational Research, Statistics or a related quantitative field
      - 5+ years of practical experience applying ML to solve complex problems in an applied environment
      - Strong CS fundamentals in data structures, problem-solving, algorithm design and complexity analysis
      - Experience with defining research and development practices in an applied environment
      - Proven track record in technically leading and mentoring scientists
      - Superior verbal and written communication and presentation skills, ability to convey rigorous mathematical concepts and considerations to non-experts
      - Excellent interpersonal communication with strong verbal / written English skills

      Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $115,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
