Job Description
- Req#: 96834
- Salary and package: £34,000 first-year salary & award-winning double matched pension plus a fantastic benefits package including all accommodation costs paid for and a food allowance when you're studying.
- Length of programme and Start Date: 4 years, all of our apprenticeships start on the 1st September 2024.
- Entry Requirements: All applicants must have 5 GSCE’s all at Level 4 or equivalent – including Maths and English and one of the following:
- A minimum of two A-Levels at Grade C or above, including a mathematical based subject and a science, technology, egnineering or an additional maths related subject
- An Engineering BTEC Level 3 with at least 120 credits at MM (Merit Merit) level
- An EAL Diploma in an Engineering-based subject at merit or above
- Equivalent qualifications such as Technical Levels at MM or above
- Applicants must be 18 years old or older on or before the start date. We do of course welcome applicants from all age groups for this programme. HEINEKEN Automation Engineering Apprenticeship – John Smith’s Brewery Tadcaster

If you’re looking at pursuing a career as an Automation Engineer, an apprenticeship is a brilliant place to begin the journey. You’re able to gain hands-on experience whilst getting paid to do so! Your training costs are covered, and you will gain nationally recognised qualification to a trade.You'll work towards a Level 4 Automation and Controls Engineering Technician apprenticeship standard, undertaking study blocks with a top engineering apprenticeship training provider and bringing theory to life through extensive on-the-job coaching and practice with our Automation Engineering team at Tadcaster Brewery.
Your apprenticeship will cover topics such as installation, support, maintenance, and fault finding of software systems and networks through thoroughly building your competence and confidence around automation, instrumentation, and industrial network knowledge, developing your skills in using software and diagnostic tools as well as an understanding of technical documents and automation project principles.
The focus of the apprenticeship is to develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours about process safety, quality, and operation as well as continuous improvement approaches in HEINEKEN’s brewing environment.
Because of the technical elements involved in the learning, we ask that all applicants must have 5 GSCE’s or equivalent – including at least a level 6 in Maths and a level 4 in English.
We’re looking for individuals who are passionate about the industry and HEINEKEN, can demonstrate good behaviours and are eager to learn.

Why did you choose the brewing apprenticeship?
“I’d been looking for an apprenticeship and this is the first time I saw this type of opportunity, I’m really interested in brewing and but didn’t know where to start to become a brewer and plus it's Heineken and John Smith’s so I knew I’d learn the best way. I’m only in the first month of my programme and I know I’ve made the right decision, everyone has made me feel really welcome”

“Each day brings its new set of challenges, which keep this job very exciting; in terms of all previous employment I have had, I never looked forward to going to work; but this job is different, the people and the atmosphere make coming to work incredibly rewarding.”
