- Some groundwork/voluntary experience within industry.
- Must be eligible to undertake an Apprenticeship.
- GCSE E-A or 3-9 in English and Maths, or the ability to achieve a Level 1 functional skill and work towards the Level 2 within the timeframe of the Apprenticeship.
- 5 or more GCSEs grades A*-C, specifically English Language Mathematics, or equivalent.
- Clean driving licence.
- Ability to learn how to use all relevant machinery competently and quickly.
- Be aware of relevant and adhere to Health and Safety legislation.
- Enjoy working outside in all weathers.
- Be comfortable working both on their own and with others.
- Good communication skills.
- Enthusiastic and personally committed to achieving objectives set.
- Receptive to feedback about own behavior, strengths and areas for improvement.
- Completion of a Level 2 Sports Turf Operative Standard.
- Competent at operating different types of machinery.
- Learn how to treat the pitches differently depending on time of year and weather.
- Develop interpersonal and communication skills.

What is the role?
We are looking for someone who would like to kickstart their career in Horticulture (Particularly Sports Turf) to join our Grounds team as an Apprentice working at Staplewood Campus, the training ground of Southampton FC.
What will you be doing?
You will assist in maintaining the highest possible standards across all pitches at the Staplewood Campus, ensuring they are safe, playable, and presented to a professional standard at all times. A strong attention to detail and a conscientious approach to work are essential.
While the role is primarily based at Staplewood Campus, there may be occasions where support is required at the Stadium and other sites maintained by the club, depending on operational needs.
This role is based outside, so you will be required to work in all weather conditions.
You will be undertaking a practical training course, giving you hands-on experience within a professional work environment and the opportunity to further your knowledge by attending workshops and additional training days.
You will be undertaking the Level 2 Sports Turf Operative apprenticeship standard. The apprenticeship training you will undertake is the new standard and will focus on all key areas of training and development.
