All our Apprentices are paid above the national minimum wage, and you’ll be paid for your normal working hours plus your attendance at college with the opportunity to get real life experiences, such as working in people’s homes, getting involved in community projects and improving people’s lives by being customer focused.

What will I learn through the apprenticeship programme ?

With 30 years’ experience of delivering market-leading repairs and maintenance services, Mears is trusted to deliver more than 6,000 repairs daily to a portfolio of more than 1,000,000 homes nationwide.

Mears C areers N ational A pprenticeship S cheme is designed to e m power and challenge you; you’ll be trusted with real work and responsibility from the outset. During your apprenticeship you will have a fantastic opportunity to earn while you learn and will receive formal training coupled with working alongside our skilled workforce who will inspire and train you in the practical elements of the trade . The NVQ Level 2 Painter and Decorator apprenticeship programme takes 36 months to complete .

A s a P ainter and Decorator, you will have the skills and knowledge to work out what materials are needed for a particular project by taking measurements and looking at job specifications and drawings. You will be responsible for removing old paint and paper, preparing surfaces by fixing woodwork, filling, and sealing holes, cracks and join ts and applying wallpaper, paints, stains, and varnishes using brushes, rollers and spraying equipment.

At the end of your apprenticeship, you must achieve your TRADES test. Upon passing this test you will earn the status of Painter and Decorator.

Roles in Painting and Decorating are physical in nature and may involve lifting and moving equipment, working at height, and working in doors and outdoors.

What you need to have:

• Functional skills in both Math and English to Level 4 .

• The ability and desire to learn and develop a thorough knowledge of the skills, technology and safety procedures required to carry out the full range of tasks .

• Strong communication skills .

• Be able to establish and maintain good customer/client relationships .
