Adhere to the Province of Alberta, ENMAX Corporation, A.E.U.C. (Alberta Electrical Utility Code) and Occupational Health and Safety rules and regulations.
A PSE Apprentice performs work in the construction, commissioning and maintenance, and the protection and control areas of high voltage electrical substations.
Within the substation work includes construct , commission, troubleshoot, repair and maintenance of high voltage transformers, circuit breakers, instrument transformers and all other related equipment.
Use all types of protection and control schemes, including all microprocessor relaying, remote terminal units (SCADA), man-machine interface systems and all other related relay processes.
PSE Apprentices will also work within the extensive downtown network distribution system, which is unique to only a few cities in North America. The majority of work in the Downtown Network will consist of maintenance, switching, troubleshooting, relaying, remote monitoring, cable pulling and splicing.
Working with Metering Team PSE Apprentices will i nstall, inspect and maintain complex Meter Systems ensuring compliance with Measurement Canada, AUC, and AESO Regulations.
PSE Apprentices will w ork as part of a team to safely perform work on the energized electric system alongside ENMAX PSEs, P ower L ine T echnician s, and Civil Personnel.
Ensure proper care and use of vehicles, equipment, and work sites
Other related duties as assigned.
Must meet ENMAX Corporation’s requirements as to qualifications and must be qualified under the Alberta Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship Education Act with respect to the related electrical trade
Diploma ( or currently enrolled and graduating prior to June 1, 202 4 ) in Electrical Engineering Technology from SAIT or NAIT
Related utility or technological experience would be considered an asset
Other related electrical trades experience is an asset
Must have a proven safety record and thorough knowledge of Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Safe Work Practices (SWPs)
Must be willing to upgrade qualifications as required

1st year apprentice – 60% of Journeyman rate ($3 7.42 per hour)
2nd year apprentice - 65% of Journeyman rate ($ 40.54 per hour)
3rd year apprentice - 75% of Journeyman rate ($4 6.77 per hour)
4th year apprentice - 85% of Journeyman rate ($5 3.01 per hour)

Applicants will be required to provide a current driver’s abstract (those with more than 6 demerits will not be considered ), and must be able to meet ENMAX’s insurance requirements.

Salary: As outlined in the IBEW Collective Agreement (based on 202 4 rates):
Journeyman Rate – $6 2.36 per hour based on 202 4 rates
Shift: Regular Days: 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Shift may be changed to meet operational needs
