Summary of Job Duties:
institution, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Manager, Aquaculture Research Station/Research Associate in the Department of
Aquaculture and Fisheries.
The Manager, Aquaculture Research Station/Research Associate works under the supervision of the Director, Center of Excellence of UAPB
Aquaculture/Fisheries Center. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall management and supervision of the farm crew,
ensuring that all ponds and other systems, water supply, electrical systems, equipment, vehicles, golf carts, buildings, and roads are maintained
in good working order, and support research and extension faculty, staff, and students. The candidate will also provide oversight for any
necessary renovations of the facilities. The station manager also maintains demo/model ponds showcasing biosecurity practices and profitable
production of important fish species for research, extension, and outreach activities. In addition, the station manager will be crucial in
coordinating programs that promote participation from high school and undergraduate students, organizing field day events, and other
educational activities under the direction of the Center Director.
The Station is on 200 acres of land one mile north of the UAPB campus. There are currently 107 earthen ponds, including a 5-acre reservoir
that supplies water to the remaining research ponds. Thirty-five ponds are 0.1 acres in size, and 14 are covered with bird netting to exclude
predators. There are twelve 0.5-acre ponds for holding and spawning purposes. A 1-acre pond is used for small impoundment demonstration.
The remaining 58 ponds are 0.25-acre. Water is supplied from groundwater through three wells drilled into two different aquifers. Further
research may be conducted in 40 9-foot diameter pools covered with bird netting. A hangar covers eight concrete vats for holding, grading, &
handling fish. Other buildings on site include 1) Aquaculture Equipment Development Building; 2) Aquaculture Research and Demonstration
Building; 3) Feed Building; 4) Hatchery; 5) Maintenance Building; 6) Storage Facility; 7) Value-Added Product Building; 8) Water Chemistry
Laboratory; 9) Aquatic Plant Greenhouse; and 10) Truck Shed.
Qualifications:The Manager, Aquaculture Research Station/Research Associate must hold a high school diploma plus at least 15 years of experience in managing aquaculture ponds and hatchery management required; a bachelor's degree plus at least 10 years of experience or a master's degree (preferred) in Aquaculture or a closely related field. Applicants must provide three letters of recommendation, a letter of application addressing the position's requirements, curriculum vitae, and US equivalence transcripts from all universities attended. Require excellent communication skills. Preference will be given to the applicant willing to live in Pine Bluff and flexible work hours.
