      Position Title: Aquarist II

      Department: Fishes and Invertebrates

      Classification: Full Time, Non-Exempt

      Direct Report: Associate Curator, Zoological Operations

      Position Summary

      The Aquarist-II will work with a diverse team of other Aquarists in the implementation and evaluation of husbandry for an exhibit gallery and will be responsible for implementing daily operational requirements as articulated by the overall Fishes & Invertebrates Management Team. In addition, the Aquarist-II will work with the gallery team in achieving goals and participating in staff education, training, and safety plan, as well as meeting personal performance goals and objectives.

      Responsibilities:

      1. Implements the zoological and exhibit goals and standards for the gallery of responsibility
      2. Implements the daily operational requirements of the staff, animals and gallery of responsibility
      3. Participates in training, development and review process for individual development and enrichment
      4. Works with the team to maintain the highest quality exhibit presentations
      5. Creates SOPs for team as needed
      6. Takes on progressively more challenging tasks for the team
      7. Mentors junior staff and interns
      8. Proficient with time management
      9. Capable of making independent decisions for animal care and exhibit maintenance
      10. Understands operational needs for team
      11. Interface effectively with other departments to maintain the highest quality standards
      12. Fosters working relationships with other institutions
      13. As needed, interact on behalf of the Georgia Aquarium with guests, media, general public, etc.
      14. Adheres to dive safety guidelines established by the dive safety officer
      15. Performs other duties as workload necessitates

      Qualifications:

      1. Preferred, four-year degree in biology or related field
      2. Three years of work experience in an AZA accredited institution, or equivalent, working with aquatic animals and associated husbandry and life support.
      3. Certified SCUBA Diver
      4. Valid Driver’s License and/or CDL, or the ability to obtain one
      5. Valid passport, or the ability to obtain one
      6. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products.
