      Overview

      The YMCA of the Pikes Peak region is searching for Shift Supervisors to ensure the safety of visitors to our aquatic facilities. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

      The Shift Supervisor is responsible for supervising the lifeguards during mornings, nights, weekends, and times when the Aquatics Director is not available. The Shift Supervisor will tactfully handle member complaints and concerns. In addition, they are required to guard accurately and display a positive role model and mentor for other aquatics staff all while maintaining a safe and organized pool area.

      Responsibilities

      • Responsible for supervision of all aquatic programs and staff in absence of aquatic director or pool manager
      • Assist aquatic director or pool manager, if needed, with scheduling or other duties, assuring lifeguard shifts complement the swim lessons and special events calendar
      • Assist aquatic director or Pool Manager in leading and participating in random or scheduled lifeguard drills and audits
      • Responsible for daily pump room/pool chemical inspections - reporting any issues or abnormalities to the aquatic director or pool manager
      • Conduct aquatics orientation with all new employees.
      • Implement and follow aquatics SOP’s and safety plans.
      • Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills
      • Listens and expresses ideas effectively and in a manner that reflects a true understanding of the needs of the audience
      • Employs influence strategies that engage, inspire, and build commitment to position and overall YMCA goals
      • Integrates logic, intuition, and sound judgment to analyze information to identify the greatest opportunities, make sound decisions, and solve problems
      • Checks that safety equipment is correctly placed and in proper working order at the start of each shift.
      • Completes incident report as needed and contacts supervisory if/when an emergency occurs, or when the pool is closed.
      • Participates and assists in staff training, in-services, meetings, swim meets, and events as required.
      • When actively guarding, refrain from other duties, such as testing chemicals, storing equipment, etc. Additional duties should be completed prior to or after actively guarding or during a shift rotation when you have a short break from actively guarding.
      • Other duties as assigned

      Qualifications

      • 18 years of age
      • 1-year lifeguard experience and a combination of supervisory and/or leadership opportunities
      • Current YMCA lifeguard certification
      • YMCA Swim instructor - or must be obtained within 9 months of hire or first class available.
      • Proficient in swimming and safety skills Must be observant, safety conscious and able to react calmly and quickly to an emergency
