      HORNE's Government Services focus area is searching for an architectural historian who meets the Secretary of Interior Professional Qualifications Standards to assist in implementing programs related to disaster recovery, specifically for the Section 106 component.

      Key Functions:

      • Support the Historic Preservation (HP) staff on HUD Section 106 environmental reviews as it pertains to architectural history. This will entail performing desktop reviews. While occasional travel may be needed, it will be limited.
      • Perform year-built verifications for structures.
      • Review executed Programmatic Agreement and apply appropriate allowances based on each individual case, where applicable.
      • Prepare consultation forms for submission to the State Historic Preservation Office.
      • Assist with documenting and assessing internal controls for state and local governmental entities.
      • Communicate progress of projects, problems, and resolutions to the senior HP staff and team.
      • Research and identify complex program issues or problems.
      • Make recommendations for and coordinate resolutions and improvements.

      Core Competencies:

      • Proficiency in MS Office Applications such as Word, Outlook and Excel, as well as Adobe Acrobat.
      • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
      • Must pay excellent attention to detail.
      • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and workflows.
      • Team player with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
      • Collaboration

      Preferred Skills:

      • Knowledge of ESRI software (i.e. ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, etc).

      Work Environment: Remote

      Required education and experience:

      • Secretary of Interior-qualified Architectural Historian.
      • Knowledge of architectural history in the South and Southeast, with experience in Alabama and Texas preferred.
        • A minimum of 2 to 5 years of experience.
        • The ideal candidate will possess an advanced degree in Architectural History, Historic Preservation, or a closely related field.
