- This is a part-time, temporary position, requiring 20 hours per week for a period of 6 months.
- The agreed upon weekly work schedule is flexible between the hours of 7am to 5pm Monday through Friday.
- The position will be onsite at Caltech in Pasadena, CA.
- Arrange, describe, and rehouse the David L. Goodstein papers collection.
- Perform basic preservation measures for paper material.
- Produce a new finding aid using Describing Archives: A Content Standard as a standard and ArchivesSpace as collection management software.
- Currently enrolled in or recent graduate from a graduate program in library and information science, archival studies, museum studies, history, or public history.
- Knowledge of archival standards and best practices for arrangement and description, appraisal, preservation, and metadata.

Job Summary
The Caltech Library is seeking a current or recent graduate student in archives, library science, museum studies, history, or public history to work as an Archival Processing Intern for a 6-month period. In addition to learning the daily operations of the Archives and Special Collections, the Archival Processing Intern will primarily assist with preserving, arranging, and describing the physical records from the David L. Goodstein Papers. Goodstein, former vice-provost and professor emeritus in physics and applied physics, has been a member of the Caltech community since 1966.
The Archival Processing Intern will function as a member of the Caltech Archives and Special Collections Department within the Caltech Library and will report to the Collections and Metadata Archivist. The mission of Caltech Archives and Special Collections is to facilitate understanding of Caltech's role in the history of science and technology and of the research and lives of its community.
