Ability to organize, arrange and describe unpublished archival materials comprised of various formats. Knowledge and skill of basic preservation processes, rehousing and storage best practices. Knowledge of archival standards and using content management systems and spreadsheets to describe materials in a user-centered manner.
Supporting research inquiries for customers with a wide range of research experience in-person and via email and phone, including providing specialized archival reference.
Conducting research, developing, coordinating or presenting informational and educational materials for courses, classes, lectures, exhibits, workshops, and on-line instruction for the purposes of internal use, public outreach, promotion of organizational goals and objectives.
Knowledge of the history of the American West with emphasis on Denver and Colorado. Knowledge of reference services. Knowledge of print and electronic information resources and retrieval.
Ability to creatively problem-solve, negotiate, and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility.
A passion for archives and special collections work in a public library setting with preference for a knowledge about or interest in United States and American Western history.
Experience working with archival collections, including paper documents, audio visual media, photographs, and digital archival collections preferred.
Excellent organizational skills and an ability to manage multiple projects at once with an attention to detail and strong stakeholder communication.
Strong writing, communication and customer service skills.
Ability to use workplace technology effectively including email, calendar, internet, video conferencing, searching databases, creating spreadsheets.
Ability to demonstrate initiative, innovation and flexibility, including proposing process improvements; work well under pressure and meet deadlines and have excellent problem solving skills.
Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, positive attitude, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and community members
Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution.
One (1) to Three (3) years of work experience in a library, archive, or museum. Experience with various library databases and management systems including ArchivesSpace.
Experience with archival preservation best practices and knowledge of various analog audio and visual media types preferred.

The Special Collections and Archives (SCA) unit at Denver Public Library comprises two archival repositories: Western History and Genealogy at the Central Library, and the African American Research Library at Blair-Caldwell Library. Our team of over twenty-five librarians, archivists and paraprofessionals are committed to exceptional access, preservation and customer service for our world class collections.
ABOUT THE POSITION
DPL is hiring an Archivist Librarian to join the Special Collections and Archives team at the Central Library. You will create positive experiences for library customers by performing professional library work including arranging and describing archival collections and creating online finding aids.In addition to processing collections, you may collaborate on preservation, digitization and reformatting projects. Effectively communicate about issues and initiatives with customers, coworkers, and library administration.Contribute to collection development discussions and process improvements to enhance stewardship of a special library collection requiring specialized handling, security, and subject expertise. Provide public-facing special collection and archival reference, and conduct research to respond to customer inquiries via email.

Other Things to Know:This position is located at the Central Library in the Civic Center Park neighborhood of Denver. There is no free parking on site though the library is easily accessible by public transportation. Your city benefits include a free ECO pass for RTD.
The schedule for this role is Monday-Friday and may include some evening and weekend hours.
