    • Must have prior experience as a sworn law enforcement officer with an organized local police department or the Division of State Police, and be willing to provide positive references from each employer.
    • Must have been certified by the Police Officer Standards and Training Council while serving as a sworn law enforcement officer, and must have retired or separated in good standing from an organized local police department.
    • Must not have been officially found to be unqualified for reasons relating to mental health by a qualified medical professional while serving as a sworn law enforcement officer or separating from services as a sworn law enforcement officer
    • If the candidate has prior military service, the candidate must have received an honorable discharge
    • Must hold and maintain a valid driver’s license with no significant traffic violations
    • Must successfully complete annual training pursuant to the Police officer Standards and Training Council requirements and must successfully complete an annual firearms training provided by a certified firearms instructor that meets or exceeds the standards of the Police Officer Standards and Training council.
    • Must keep all security certification and training requirements current, including but not limited to permits, certifications and/or licenses to carry and use firearms or other weapons on school grounds.
    • Must pass a full background investigation.
    • Must meet all requirements for an armed security guard pursuant to Connecticut Law and must meet all requirements of a qualified retired law enforcement officer.

      Job Description

      JOB TITLE : Armed Security Officer
      REPORTS TO : Superintendent and/or designee

      POSITION SUMMARY :
      The Armed Security Officer will maintain a safe and secure environment for students, employees and visitors by helping to develop, establish and enforce safety and security policies, access control procedures, accident prevention efforts, support risk management efforts, fire, safety emergency management, asset protection, and parking control and traffic enforcement programs.

      ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

      MINIMUM EXPERIENCE :
      As a public educational institution, Ansonia seeks an individual who has demonstrated professional work experience on at least one of the primary fields related to this position:
      • Law Enforcement
      • School Security and Preparedness
      • Emergency Management


      PREFERRED EXPERIENCE OR TRAINING :
      POST-Approved Police Academy or equivalent
      FBI National Academy Program
      Advanced Police Management Program
      National Fire Academy
      Emergency Management Institute
      Security Training Programs or other comparable training programs
      Tactical Response Training
      Emergency Management Certification
      CEPTD/Mitigation Training
      Hazard Mitigation & Prevention
      Bachelor-Master Degree Licenses
      Possess a valid CT driver’s license
      ALICE trainer
