- Ensure the gas distribution system can safely supply gas to all our customers during all conditions
- Manage a range of regulated asset categories: predominantly our transmission pipelines, offtakes, and pressure management apparatus.
- Ensure compliance with the following legislation (as required), Pipeline Safety Regulations (PSR), Pressurised Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR), Control of Major Accident Hazzard (COMAH), Gas Safety Management Regulations (GSMR)
- Management of an investment strategy and plan that meets our GD2 outputs, alongside development of similar for GD3. This is focussed on delivery of plans for various upgrade and replacement programs across the south and south-east of England. A strong emphasis is placed on understanding and managing integrity issues as they arise, in addition to proactively managing programs designed around early-intervention.
- Manage a team of staff, developing their skills and abilities to meet the departments & wider SGN goals
- Represent SGN internally and externally, HSE liaison and cross-GDN groups as required
- Develop and update SGN Management Procedures and Work Instructions and support the updating and review of Industry Documents (IGEM)
- Implement & champion new technologies to enhance the efficiency and safety of our business.

We have an exciting vacancy for an Engineering Asset Manager (Transmission Southern) within the senior management structure of our Asset Management Dept.
Reporting to the Head of Asset Management (Transmission), the role in question includes the following primary responsibilities:
What you’ll need
Due to the nature of the work carried out by Network Asset Management, the successful candidate will be exposed to a wide range of activities from across the SGN business. As such, this is a key opportunity to be exposed to, and develop an understanding of those activities.
This position should interest internal candidates experienced in either Asset Management or Transmission Operational roles who are ready to develop their career to the next step. The candidate will work alongside the existing Transmission Asset Manager in Southern and be additionally supported by colleagues in Distribution Asst Mgmt. and Gas Control Mgmt. teams.
With a positive and flexible approach to work you will be highly motivated with good organisational, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills. In addition, you need to be an effective communicator at all levels and be able to act on your own initiative. Candidate would also be expected to demonstrate high level of computer literacy and associated skills. It is essential that you are committed to the SGN values and play a key role in your team delivering SGN targets while operating within our safety golden rules.
While any successful candidate would normally be expected to be degree qualified, this requirement may be relaxed where candidate demonstrates exceptional abilities in terms of criteria specified above. Chartered status with an appropriate professional body would be advantageous, however candidates with a commitment to attain chartership and a demonstrated commitment to personal CPD will also be welcomed.
