      POSITION DESCRIPTION:

      This entry level position assists higher level Application Developers in the analysis, development, and testing of program logic for a small system or a component or module of a system. Assistant Application Developer positions require an understanding of basic technology concepts. They code, test, and debug simple programs in one or more languages, working from program specifications. The Application Developer Series is distinguished from the Information Systems Analyst Series in that Application Developers perform programming duties and are required to have programming knowledge and experience.


      Duties of an Assistant Application Developer:

      • Uses established procedures, codes, tests and debugs simple application programs, software components, and interfaces or modifies existing low-complexity software according to specifications.
      • Uses established procedures, performs unit or modular testing.
      • Prepares technical documents, user manuals, and help files.
      • Assists in analysis, recording, tracking, and resolution of application problems.
      • Codes and completes programs to extract, transform, and load data for simple system conversions.
      • Assists in gathering information and eliciting and documenting business requirements as needed.
      • Assists in developing functional specifications as needed.
      • Installs application software.

      OPTION I: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree* in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related** field.

      -OR-

      OPTION II: One (1) year of recent*** full-time, paid experience in coding, testing, and debugging one or more application systems.

      LICENSE:

      A valid California Class “C” Driver License or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job related essential functions.

      PHYSICAL CLASS:

      Physical Class II – Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting; considerable walking may be involved.

      VETERAN’S CREDIT

      If you are a veteran, you may be eligible for veteran’s credit, which is an additional 10% of the total points added to a passing score.       DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION:

      Additional credit will be awarded to qualified candidates who possess the following desirable qualifications:

      •Experience in developing applications using C# (C Sharp)

      •Experience in developing and consuming Web APIs (RESTful services)

      •Familiarity with modern JavaScript frameworks such as Angular, React, or Vue.js.

      •Proficient in using GitHub for version control, code collaboration, and workflow management

      *To receive credit for a bachelor’s degree, include a legible copy of your official diploma, official transcript, or letter/certificate from an accredited institution within your application.       Accredited institutions are those listed in the publications of regional, national, or international accrediting agencies, which are accepted by the Department of Human Resources (DHR). Publications such as American Universities and Colleges and International Handbook of Universities are acceptable references. Also acceptable, if appropriate, are degrees that have been evaluated and deemed to be equivalent to degrees from United States accredited institutions by an academic credential evaluation agency recognized by The National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE) .

      EXAMINATION CONTENT :

      TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE (T&E) EVALUATION: This examination will evaluate the training, experience, education, and desirable qualifications you list on a questionnaire and assign a score based on a standardized scoring system. This assessment is worth 100% of your total score.

      ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATION:

      Qualified candidates who passed the assessment with a score of 70% or higher are placed on the eligible list for a period of twelve (12) months. We will use this list to fill vacancies within the RR/CC as they occur. Appointees may be required to work any shift, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
