- Minimum Education and Experience: Master’s degree and five (5) years of work with college-aged students. A combination of education and work experience may be considered in lieu of the required degree and/or years of experience.
- Ability, education, and/or training in pastoral care, preaching, and discipleship in a sports context.
- A capacity to impart and integrate Christian theology, wisdom, and practice to those who serve and lead in a sports environment.
- An approach to work that reflects strong communication, emotional intelligence, wise time management, attention to detail, and the ability to self-motivate.
- At least three years of experience with supervision and leadership.
- A master’s degree in theology, Christian ministry, or adjacent field in addition to at least five years of experience in pastoral care/chaplaincy, preaching, or discipleship within a sports context.
- Comfortable and skilled to impart and integrate Christian theology, wisdom, and practice to those who serve and lead in a sports environment.
- At least five years of experience with supervision and leadership.
- In collaboration with the Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director for Mission Impact & Enrichment:
- Work closely with leadership in the Athletics, Student Life, and Spiritual Life to implement the vision for the Spiritual Growth pillar of Baylor Athletics
- Identify, develop and oversee strategies to engage Baylor athletics community in spiritual growth and engagement
- Equip coaches and administrators through individual and collective discipleship to lead staff and student-athletes within a caring Christian community
- Establish and maintain impactful pastoral relationships with student-athletes, coaches, and staff by being consistently present and relationally engaged.
- Demonstrate a sensitivity to and respect for the unique pressures of highly visible coaches and student-athletes while exercising the confidence to challenge and encourage accountability for faithfully stewarding their positions as highly visible representatives of Baylor University.
- Respond to crises and offer ongoing pastoral care to student-athletes, coaches, and staff.
- Recruit, manage, supervise, and train a sports ministry team that includes Athletics staff as well as others serving adjunctly as team chaplains.
- Develop, implement and assess spiritual growth programs and initiatives to ensure effectiveness for targeted populations – collaborating as appropriate with mental health services, character formation, and other units within Athletics.
- Work closely with the Bear Foundation to develop and cultivate donor relations and increase fundraising efforts specific to Sports Ministry and spiritual growth.
- Maintain a working knowledge of and adherence to all NCAA, Big 12 Conference, and Baylor rules and regulations.
- Work closely with key partners such as Spiritual Life, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and The Faith and Sports Institute (Truett Seminary) to develop and execute impactful programs that introduce and deepen Christian faith including chapel experiences, discipleship training, mission trips, service projects, and student leadership development, etc.
- In partnership with Truett Seminary and others, coordinate practicums and internships for those preparing for sports chaplaincy and develop training programs as well for coaches and staff focused on the ways in which faith enlightens and animates a sports vocation.
- Serve as a member of the Spiritual Life Senior Leadership Team.
- Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission
- Ability to comply with University policies
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance
