      For more than 100 years, Rockhurst High School has been a place where boys become young men, with minds, bodies and souls prepared for the challenges of college and life beyond. Rockhurst challenges students with a rigorous academic program in the classical Jesuit tradition.

      PURPOSE

      We are seeking a career-minded individual to become the Assistant Choral Director for the 2025-26 academic year. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to work with singers in a college preparatory environment. The individual will work in a structured and collaborative environment with the Director of Choral Activities and Collaborative Pianist, sharing a commitment to the formation of each student according to the principles of the Grad at Grad: Open to Growth, Intellectually Competent, Religious, Committed to Doing Justice, and Loving.

      SCHEDULE

      The Assistant Choral Director position is a part-time position (up to 25 hours per week) and runs 10 months of the year (approximately August to May). The hours vary, and can be adjusted to meet the needs of the candidate. Evenings and weekends are required as events dictate. All members of the school faculty, including the Assistant Choral Director in consultation with the Director of Choral Activities, shall attend meetings of the faculty and staff, student assemblies and liturgical services, and the end of year graduation exercises.

      Responsibilities

      PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

      • Provide instruction for two choral classes within the Rockhurst Choral Department.
      • Work closely with the Director of Choral Activities in support of the choir students.
      • Participate in choral performances for select school activities.
      • Support students in sectional rehearsals and rehearsals for other performances beyond campus.
      • Attend relevant department and faculty/staff meetings in consultation with the Director of Choral Activities.
      • Collaborate with department and school colleagues in support of the school mission.
      • Participate actively in the school’s co-curricular, spiritual, and service activities, as time permits in his/her part-time commitment.

      Qualifications

      REQUIREMENTS

      • Knowledge of literature and instructional pedagogy for the choral classroom.
      • Previous experience, ideally in a school setting.
      • Clear understanding of and commitment to Rockhurst High School’s mission.
      • Student-focused approach to learning, which includes a desire to build positive relationships that are characterized by mutual respect and trust.
      • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with high school musicians in group settings.

      PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

      • Ability to stand for extended periods during rehearsals and performances.
      • Sufficient upper body mobility and arm/hand dexterity to conduct effectively.
      • Clear vocal ability for instruction and demonstration.
      • Strong auditory skills to assess pitch, blend, and balance.
      • Capacity for expressive facial and physical communication.
      • Occasional lifting and moving of music materials or small equipment (up to 25 lbs).
