      JOB SUMMARY
      The Assistant Director Department Grants Administration will report to the Department Administrator in a large, academic department with both clinical and research grants activities across multiple divisions. This position will oversee research funding efforts within the department and will partner with and assist investigators. The Assistant Director is a highly analytical position that demands the ability to adapt and manage multiple projects. This position is highly visible and requires daily communication with leadership (Chair/Chiefs/Administrators, etc.). The Assistant Director will actively manage improvement objectives and will support the execution of research goals by assuring the development, implementation, data, and performance measurement.

      EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
      Required
      • Education
        Master's Degree in business, finance, or related field
      • Experience
        8 years of experience working with faculty in an academic or research setting, including a track record of effective communication as well as familiarity with extramural grants and/or contracts. and
        Previous supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
        Additional years of directly related experience may be considered in lieu of stated degree on a year-for-year basis.

      JOB DUTIES
      • Partner with departmental leadership on research administration strategic initiatives facilitating development of large, complex research grant applications in response to funding opportunities.
      • Hire, mentor, and supervise research personnel, including overseeing and guiding their involvement in developing complex and individual grant applications, and the review and editing of grant components, including technical sections.
      • Oversee and support development of individual and complex funding proposals through effective interactions with all involved parties and by providing proposal management, proposal editing, program and budget development, and high-level advice and guidance.
      • Through existing mechanisms, as well as research and communication with possible sponsors, identify large, multidisciplinary funding opportunities from federal and non-federal sources that capitalize on existing strengths and expertise.
      • Advise faculty on suitability of and approaches to large, multidisciplinary funding opportunities from federal and non-federal sources that capitalize on existing strengths and expertise.
      • Collaborate with individuals at all levels of the organization to ensure successful integration of grant application components and full compliance with all funding solicitation and sponsor requirements.
      • Work with department leadership to identify opportunities to strengthen faculty grant applications and to implement solutions. Assist with identifying enhancements/efficiencies by partnering with SPA, HR, Budget, Accounting, Supply Chain.
      • Design, advance, and track projects assigned from all spectrums, including, but not limited to administrative presentations, financial analysis/reporting, technical innovation/exploration, and operational effectiveness.
      • Actively participate in relevant institutional committees and working groups.
      • Oversee and manage special projects as needed by the Department Administrator.
      • Performs other duties as assigned.
