- Develop strong and healthy relationships with participants, parents, community members, colleagues, supervisors, school building staff, and other stakeholders
- Execute safe and high-quality positive community and youth development programming
- Meet and exceed agency & contractual expectations for recruitment, enrollment, and retention of participants and families via successful outreach initiatives and effective delivery of in-demand services
- Serve as role models for participants, and staff, and maintain professional expectations
- Lead and coach a team of roughly 15 part-time employees
- Respond to the needs of the Beacon participants and the community
- Maintaining effective systems and approaches to ensure the program’s adherence to all policies, guidelines, and contractual requirements
- Ensures accurate and timely input of all attendance, registration forms, data, and reporting in agency and funder databases
- Leads or supports the planning, facilitation, and development of special events, regular meetings, and professional development
- Represents QCH in the community through outreach and attendance at meetings
- Monitors staff attendance and hours, approve time cards for payroll processing
- Ensures appropriate spending, proper accounting controls, timely payments, petty cash utilization & monthly reconciliation, and other fiscal responsibilities related to the program's budget
- Serves as a leader within the Beacon Unit and the Youth Services division as a whole, and fills in as needed
- Attends and sometimes facilitates regular Queens Community House, DYCD, Beacon Unit, and other external meetings.
- Responds appropriately to emergencies ensuring proper protocols, documentation, follow-up, as well as assessment and when necessary, adjustment of protocols; procedures; and expectations
- Performs conflict mediation and crisis intervention as needed
- Oversees sub-contracted and co-located programs, referral linkages, and reciprocal agreements
- Oversees program registration process, staff files, participant files, pre and post-testing, and other necessary documentation
- Ensures both digital and paper copies of files are organized appropriately for easy accessibility and storage
- Maintains timely and consistent communication with supervisor, direct reports, school administration, program staff, funders, colleagues, and other key stakeholders
- Regularly checks and responds to email requests, phone calls, and messages, with a quick turnaround time for time-sensitive matters
- Completes other duties and leads special projects as assigned
- BA/BS Degree
- 2 years of supervisory and management experience developing and implementing youth and community development programs
- Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and to use appropriate discretion.
- Aptitude for relating to young people, staff and the community as a positive adult role model and leader.
- Proficiency with: Microsoft Outlook E-mail, Calendar, One Drive, Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Teams | Zoom Google Classroom | Canva | Adobe PDF Editor
- Ability to learn and develop competency with new digital apps, programs and platforms.
- Ability to obtain appropriate clearances and meet NYS School Aged Child Care Program Director requirements
- Exceptional organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Proven capacity to work as part of a team and a strong initiative to drive forward and complete project goals.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully develop and execute plans, manage multiple initiatives and prioritize competing demands
- The ability and the technology to work with participants both in-person and remotely
- Must be available to work events during the evenings and weekends
- A commitment to learning and growing
- BA/BS in Social Services, Social Work, School / Public Health, Education or related field
- 2 years of supervisory and management experience in health, education, and/or social services in an urban community
- Bilingual Spanish, or other language(s)
- Demonstrated competency in: program outreach and retention; performance-based contracting (DYCD)

Beacon Community Centers are collaborative school based community programs serving children age six and older, and adults of all ages. The Beacon operates M-F from 1:15PM-9:15PM. Saturdays from 8:30AM – 4PM, and during school holidays, school recesses, and in the summer from 7:30AM to 6PM. The Beacon Assistant Director's schedule varies based on program needs. Our Beacons guide participants in: building both positive social connections and a sense community, exploring their interests and their passions, becoming life-long learners, gaining meaningful experiences, developing the skills and the mindset they need to succeed in their educational and career settings, and in becoming active participants and leaders in their communities.
The Beacon Assistant Director (AD) reports to the Beacon Director (BD). The AD is responsible for supporting the BD with all operations of the Beacon Community Center and with leading the program’s operationalization of QCH’s Mission, Vision, and Positioning (MVP), and of a positive community and youth development framework and culture.

Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Compensation : $27.47 - $30.00 per hour
Schedule: 35 hours per week
