    • Assist with recruitment and training of new drivers and the development of plans and procedures to retain drivers.
    • Assist with supervision of operations personnel responsible for payroll and personnel, filed trips and activity trips.
    • Assist with management of fleet maintenance.
    • Assist with the management and implementation of school bus routes to ensure safe and efficient student transportation.
    • Oversee the development and bidding requirements and specification for new school buses and equipment.
    • Respond to accidents involving school buses and other department vehicles to ensure proper disposition and protection of District resources.
    • Report all incidents and accidents of a serious nature up chain of command.
    • Assist with the submission of monthly Transportation report to Superintendent.
    • Review trends and perform analysis of data to ascertain methods, techniques and procedures to improve operation.
    • Maintain compliance with all Federal and State laws.
    • Manage the training of staff
    • Uses standard office equipment such as personal computer, printers, copier and telephone.
    • Will operate a fleet vehicle, general education bus, as well as a special education bus equipped a with wheelchair lift.
    • Ability to maintain emotional control and make decisions in stressful situations.
    • Ability to efficiently gather information used to make sound decisions.
    • Knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining Transportation laws.
    • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information.
    • Ability to organize and manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously and independently to meet deadlines.
    • Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation and staff supervision.

    • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university preferred

      Position Purpose

      The Assistant Director of Transportation provides support and strengthens the culture within the Transportation Department through recruitment, manages direction and management of department, payroll, organizational development and compliance, and fleet maintenance.

      Essential Functions
