      POSITION OVERVIEW:

      Under the direction of the Senior Center Director and in accordance with programs and policies provided by the City of New York, the Senior Center Associate Director assists in planning and managing the day-to-day operation of the senior center. Work is evaluated for policy compliance and program accomplishment and effectiveness in line with the Institute’s mission. As the second in command, the Senior Center Assistant Director will be capable of filling in for the Director on occasion.

      KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

      • Assists in planning, directing and organizing multilingual/multicultural activities, programs and services which include nutritional services, educational programs, transportation and escort services, information and referral services, outreach program, community help services, recreational and social activities. Develops work plans and annual goals.
      • Assists in ensuring that monies are spend in accordance with approved budgets. Identifies special needs, inadequate funding or items not addressed by the budget. Assists in fundraising activities to help meet programmatic needs.
      • Assists in recruitment, training and supervision of senior center staff and volunteers. Plans and assigns work to staff, sets priorities, and prepares work schedules.
      • Develops work plans and assists with budgets and annual goals. Ensures that service records are accurately maintained. Implements procedures for case findings, case assessment, and case management.
      • Works with the Senior Center Director in maintaining safety and sanitary procedures. Ensures compliance with Building, Fire, and Health Department codes.
      • Ensures the facility, equipment, and vehicles are properly cleaned and maintained. Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies.
      • Enrolls seniors in the center and provides orientation/information regarding services and programs offered. Encourages active participation. Provides direct services to senior participants including crisis intervention.
      • Helps supervise the preparation and distribution of breakfast and lunch which is a program that meets the nutritional, emotional, physical, intellectual, cultural, and social needs of the elderly.
      • Consults with the Senior Center Director in reviewing and evaluating the delivery of services. Prepares and submits periodic reports to the Center Director documenting all nutrition, education and social services provided, center participation in programs/activities and other reports as required on a timely basis.
      • Assists the Center Director in establishing and maintaining relationships with other community organizations. May sit in on community meetings and conveys to Center Director reports, decisions, and results of meetings or events in relation to Institute goals.
      • May represent the Institute in serving as an advocate for seniors and in promoting good public relations with local news media, government and private funding sources, and other local groups and organizations.
      • Will serve as interim Senior Center Director in his/her absence.
      • Will be asked to provide peer training and peer audits on occasion.
      • May be asked to cover and assist another center in IPHRE on occasion.

      REQUIREMENT:

      • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. College credits or degree preferred.
      • At least one year of management and supervisory experience. Direct experience with senior center management preferred.
      • Bi-lingual (Spanish) preferred.
      • Must obtain NYC F-07 and NYC S-95 within 60 days of employment.
      • Must be CPR certified within 60 days of employment.
      • Must obtain the Food Protection certification within 60 days of employment.
      • Supports and exhibits the core values of the Institute’s mission.
      • Understands low income and low/middle income minority senior citizens and their needs.
      • Appreciation of and sensitivity to multilingual/multicultural populations whether native-born or immigrant.
      • Effectively communicates bilingually (Spanish/English, Chinese/English, and Korean/English) orally and in writing.
      • Excellent organizational and supervisory skills.
      • Well-organized and detail-oriented. Computer-literate.
      • Ability to engage seniors, work with colleagues, inspire and motivate staff, and represent the Institute in public arenas.
      • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
      • Almost always: Fingering (typing, keyboarding, etc…)
      • Frequently: Lifting, reaching, extended sitting.
      • Almost never: extended standing.
      • Sedentary work (equivalent to lifting approximately 10 pounds with occasional lifting and/or carrying of small objects. A minimal amount of walking or standing may be required
