      Job Summary
IEEE Spectrum has an exciting opportunity for a full-time editor to cover the consumer electronics beat. Published by the IEEE, Spectrum is an editorially independent, general-interest publication on technology comprising a monthly print magazine (circulation 400,000) and a website (1 million monthly visitors, spectrum.ieee.org). A successful candidate will have a passion for cutting-edge science and technology. You’ll be joining an award-winning team of experienced, collaborative, and dedicated journalists.

One of your main duties will be editing long-form articles written by experts and freelancers. This includes commissioning and editing features and collaborating with art directors to make these articles visually engaging. You’ll also be responsible for reporting and writing features and news. IEEE Spectrum encourages travel for reporting.

In covering consumer electronics, you’ll carve out your own beat from such areas as consumer gadgets, smartphones, wearables, displays, computer gaming, and AR/VR hardware and applications. You’ll have room to maneuver, as well as opportunities to discover and follow new trends and breakthroughs that intrigue you. Whatever we cover, we put a lot of weight on great writing about science and technology—unpacking and explaining in clear and friendly language exactly how things work.

The ideal candidate will be based on the U.S. West Coast or in New York City, but we will consider remote applicants in other U.S. locations.

IEEE employees enjoy a competitive salary commensurate with experience and a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, 401(k) plan with company match, a tuition reimbursement program, flexible spending accounts, and company-paid life insurance.
