Position Overview:
1. The Assistant Lighting Designer assists in the realization of the resident and guest lighting designer’s vision for their assigned productions.
Pay rate: $18/hour, plus housing and travel to and from Ashland, if the chosen candidate(s) lives more than 80 miles from Ashland.
This is a full-time seasonal position, and the contract dates are either 2/12/24 - 6/24/24 or 7/1/24-7/30/24
Organizational Background
The Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) was founded in 1935 in Ashland, OR, and has grown from a three-day festival of two plays to a nationally renowned theatre arts organization that presents a rotating repertory season of up to 10 plays and musicals, including illuminating interpretations of Shakespeare, other enduring classics, and new works. OSF productions have been presented on Broadway, internationally, and at regional, community, and high school theatres across the country. OSF received the 1983 Special Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre and is one of the largest nonprofit theatres in the nation with three stages, including an outdoor Allen Elizabethan Theatre.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Models and supports the mission and values of OSF by:
a. Demonstrating inclusive behavior.

Accurately record all information related to lighting in consultation and collaboration with the involved parties. This primarily includes the resident lighting designer, guest lighting designer, lighting department manager, lead electricians, electrics crew, follow spot ops, and stage managers, and may involve other members of the company or production team.
3. Communicate clearly, concisely, and in a timely fashion.
4. Manage and update all changes to the lighting plots in Vectorworks.
5. Manage and update all changes to lighting paperwork in Lightwright, Excel, and/or OneNote.
6. Ensure that all show related electronic files are kept up to date, stored and backed up in the correct format and location(s).
7. Create the Show Documentation Archive (show binder) for each assigned show.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Organizes and communicates work, focus, board, and cue notes.
2. Creates/updates the lighting designer’s cue script.
3. Creates/maintains the lighting designer’s magic sheet(s).
4. Creates and updates follow spot cue tracking and calls follow spot cues during technical rehearsals.
5. Manages a tidy and orderly tech table.
6. Manages EOS ‘Snapshot’ settings for themself and the LD.
7. Updates and generates printed paperwork for crew and designer(s).
8. Keeps all physical and digital work areas clean, organized, and tidy.
9. Assists the crew with tech table set up and strike.
10. Attends non-tech rehearsals when required.
Supervision Received: Resident Lighting Designer, Lighting Department Manager, Guest Designers, other LX department personnel

Minimum Qualifications & Skills:
Work Experience: One (1) year of experience in theatrical or live event lighting. (Experience in a higher education technical theatre program may be considered in lieu of work experience)
Qualifications/skills:
• Ability to generate and maintain light plots and typical theatrical lighting paperwork.
• Working knowledge of Vectorworks Spotlight CAD software.
• Working knowledge of Lightwright paperwork software.
• Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite software (Outlook, Excel, OneNote, SharePoint).
• Familiarity with ETC EOS Family lighting control consoles.
• Familiarity with conventional and automated entertainment lighting equipment.
• Working knowledge of industry standard operating procedures regarding theatrical lighting.
• Ability to work as a team member in a collaborative environment.
• Strong verbal communication skills.

Physical:
Sit and stand for extended periods. Occasionally balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl. Frequently lift up to 15 lbs. Frequently squat, kneel, or crouch while maintaining position, and stand, walk, and sit at tech table for up to 10 hours per day.
Hours Requirements:
Standard work week is Tuesday through Sunday. Night-time and weekend hours are regularly required. Overtime is sometimes required, especially during technical rehearsal periods. The ability to work a variable, split-shift schedule is required.
