Job Description

- Collaborates with Maintenance Supervisors to determine work procedures and assign duties to employees engaged in highway or trail maintenance work
- Provides updates on daily operations and issues to the Manager of Highway Operation, or other DOT leadership as needed
- Supervises snow and ice operations
- Ensures employees are equipped with necessary equipment, tools, parts, and safety equipment to properly maintain day to day functions and emergency responses
- Stays current on industrial standards and trends
- Recommends hires and promotions, directs, evaluates and appeals of employment decisions for all assigned positions
- Responds to emergencies within the division
- Acts as a liaison between the Highway Operations unit and other internal partners and external agencies
- Oversees administrative recordkeeping and maintenance reporting
- Oversees DOT safety program
- Completion of a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma equivalent
- Eight (8) years of experience in all phases of highway maintenance operations
- Three (3) years of supervisory experience
- Possess and maintain in good standing, a valid Illinois Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with an air brakes endorsement.

This position supports the Division by directing, supervising and overseeing the daily tasks of subordinate staff assigned to the Highway Maintenance Division.
