To be fully engaged in providing Quality/No Harm, Customer Service and Stewardship by planning, directing and assessing all unit functions to include evaluation of patient care on a 24 hour basis on an assigned unit. Additional functions include participation in the development of policies and procedures for the Department of Patient Care Services, implementation of Health First policies and objectives, interview and selection of personnel, budget preparation, and cost effective operations, scheduling and assignment of personnel, employee performance appraisals, quality improvement activities, counseling and disciplinary actions as needed, at all times serving as clinical and professional role model to staff and contributing to their professional growth and development.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Quality/No Harm:
• Ensures patient and staff safety on the assigned unit.
• Promotes associate accountability and competency through leadership and management practice.
• Provides input for annual performance appraisals and competency checklists for personnel on assigned shift on an annual basis and as necessary in a timely manner.
• Interviews and participates in the selection of new personnel for the unit.
• Assists with and participates in the development of policies, procedures, and standards of care for the unit. Implements and ensures compliance with policies and procedures.
• Ensures adequate training and appropriate use of the electronic medical record in compliance with established policies, procedures, and expectations
• Counsels and disciplines associates as necessary. Encourages associate growth and development through mentorship and goal setting. Encourages associate participation in the clinical ladder.
• Responsible for scheduling and assigning personnel on assigned shift to ensure safe, adequate, and appropriate staffing for the unit. Schedules are completed in a timely manner and in compliance with the approved unit staffing plan based on patient needs and acuity.
• Assists with implementation of unit based performance improvement activities resulting in improved operations and patient care outcomes:
o Completes assigned audits and monitors accurately and in a timely manner.
o Identifies opportunities for quality improvement activities on the unit
o Reports CQI results to departmental director and shares with shift associates.
• Ensures compliance with the Joint Commission and other organizational and regulatory agency standards with quality indicators and core measures.
• Performs those clinical skills within the scope of practice of a registered nurse in the state of Florida for which competencies have been validated.
Stewardship:
• Assists in the development of the annual budget for the unit to include personnel, operational and capital needs.
• Monitors and ensures compliance staffing guidelines. Communicates unit, staff, and equipment needs and concerns to Manager/Director as appropriate.
Customer Experience:
• Associate supports engagement through adherence to the I-CARE commitments and Health First Philosophy.
• Consistently displays and holds associates accountable for the elements of good service.
• Facilitates communication and problem solving with team members, physicians, and administrative personnel.
• Demonstrates ability to provide patient care utilizing nursing process as evidenced by documentation of process and discharge planning.
• Ensures current knowledge and competency in appropriate clinical skills. Documents attendance at clinical and management continuing education programs to ensure that knowledge base is current and to promote professional growth and development. Acquires certification in clinical specialty.
• Contributes to the patient experience as evidenced by positive patient satisfaction scores and HCAHP scores for department.
• Ensures consistent performance of purposeful hourly rounding and bedside shift report.

▪ Education: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing o BSN required OR Conditional and time limited waiver for BSN requirement may apply to internal associates who complete their BSN within 3 years of transition to new role (grand-father provision) OR external candidates may apply who are currently enrolled in a BSN program to complete within 3 years of hire.
▪ Licensure: Current Florida RN license or endorsement
▪ Certification:
Must hold current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintain
National certification in relevant specialty or in Nurse Administration preferred
• Work Experience:Minimum of 2 years acute care clinical experience preferred
Previous nursing management experience preferred
Meets all qualifications required in RN job description
▪ Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Must have knowledge of TJC (The Joint Commission), Florida Nurse Practice Act and other applicable agency regulations
Must be able to speak/understand written and verbal instructions in the English language
Sound organizational skills to include time management and problem-solving
Highly developed communication skills, verbal and non-verbal
Maintains professional competencies by attending continuing education programs and participates in professional organizations
Basic computer skills utilizing the windows environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:▪ Must have visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform clinical tasks
▪ Good physical condition and without assistance must be able to lift, push, or move equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
▪ Must be able to pass color blind testing to perform POC tests requiring color changes
▪ Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for 90% of assigned shift
MENTAL DEMANDS:
▪ Ability to display and promote elements of good service.
▪ Must have ability to listen well and analyze needs from various ages and levels of education.
▪ Must have ability to access, interpret data and educate members of the healthcare team, patients, and significant others of various ages.
▪ Ability to concentrate on multi-priority activities during shift
▪ Ability to respond appropriately to life threatening & stressful situations.
