    • Assist with the articulation of the vision for 21st Century Teaching and Learning Assist in the supervision of the daily operation of the building

    • Provide a variety of instructional leadership functions

    • Administer a program of student discipline, including restorative practices

    • Schedule non-athletic facilities and field usage in coordination with the student activities director

    • Ability to sit up to 40% of the day in meetings, and to sit/stand several times in short periods while moving between classrooms and sitting for short intervals of instructional observation.

    • Ability to walk up and down stairs throughout the day, and walk up/down bleachers or other stepped surfaces while supervising students or extracurricular events.

    • Must be able to work up to 12 hours in a day, which includes the full school day and then during after-school extra-curricular activities where administrative supervision and involvement is required.

    • Must be physically able to separate or intervene in physical altercations between students to guarantee student safety.

    • JOB SUMMARY

      The High School Assistant Principal reports to the Principal and is responsible for assisting the Principal in the administration of the total school program.

      MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

      • Assist with the articulation of the vision for 21st Century Teaching and Learning Assist in the supervision of the daily operation of the building

      • Provide a variety of instructional leadership functions

      • Administer a program of student discipline, including restorative practices

      • Schedule non-athletic facilities and field usage in coordination with the student activities director

      • Supervise the school custodial and grounds staff

      • Assist with in-service and professional development programs

      • Serve on various committees and organizations as assigned

      • Assist the principal in the supervision of instruction

      Perform other duties assigned by the Principal that may also include, but are not limited to the following:

      • Facilitate the vertical articulation of curriculum and team functions.

      • Supervise and lead the administration of state (M-STEP/SAT) and Advanced Placement testing.

      • Provide leadership in administering PBIS/MTSS programming.

      • Coordinate school-wide enrichment activities, assemblies, and pep rallies.

      QUALIFICATIONS

      The candidate selected for this assignment will be the one who offers the best combination of qualities in accordance with the following standards and requirements:

      1. Master's degree preferred. Training should include areas of school administration, supervision, and curriculum.

      3. A minimum of five years of teaching and/or administrative experience and substantial experience in a variety of leadership roles is preferred.

      4. Evidence of the candidate's ability to provide quality leadership must be demonstrated through:

      • excellent communication skills;

      • a conceptual understanding of human growth and development, learning theories, and teaching methodologies;

      • skill and sensitivity in working with all members of the school community;

      • ability to plan, organize, and execute the full range of administrative tasks associated with the operation of a comprehensive high school;

      • skill in creating a positive, open, enthusiastic, and well-organized teaching and learning environment;

      • skill in fostering the continued growth of staff members;

      • a commitment to community education concepts; and

      5. Candidates must possess a Michigan teaching certificate and be eligible for administrative certification in the State of Michigan/be enrolled in a certification program/and or be willing to obtain certification within 2 years.

      TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

      The position is assigned to work 11 months, 240 days per year.

      BASE SALARY RANGE

      Compensation in accordance with the Grosse Pointe Administrators Association Master Agreement
