      Summary of Job Duties:

      As an Assistant Professor, responsibilities include teaching, research, and service in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

      Specifically, this position will conduct research leading to scholarly publications in power and energy systems, broadly defined. Additionally, they will be expected to write proposals to obtain external funding, establish an independent research program supported by external funding; develop graduate and undergraduate courses; provide curriculum material; construct syllabi; provide classroom instruction; write and administer exams; prepare and evaluate students; mentor students; serve on various faculty and student-oriented committees; exhibit participation and leadership in related professional societies; and participate in the faculty decision-making for the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

      For this position, the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science is seeking candidates with expertise in power and energy systems. Areas of expertise may include, but are not limited to, ac and/or dc power systems, smart grid, renewable energy systems, advanced control techniques for power systems with inverter based resources, medium voltage distribution systems, distributed energy resources, and other grid-connected advanced power electronics.

      Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


      Qualifications:

      Minimum Qualifications:

      • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution of higher education, conferred by the start of employment

      • Research expertise in areas of power and energy systems, covering theoretical, simulations and experimental aspects

      • Must present a promising track record in scholarship through refereed publications in international conferences and/or journals

      • Experience teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Significant theoretical and/or experimental contributions to one or more of the following topics: electric power systems; system operation, planning and optimization; power system protection and reliability; renewable energy systems, smart grid; grid-edge power electronics; grid-forming inverters; analytical methods and computational tools for large-scale electric power systems (including hardware-in-the-loop and real-time simulators)

      • The search committee seeks power and energy expertise as a primary qualification, but candidates with research interests in cybersecurity and/or artificial intelligence/machine learning as applied to electric power grid infrastructure may apply

      • Experience teaching the fields of power systems, electric circuits, control, energy conversion, or related courses in an accredited, higher education environment

      • Experience in mentoring students

      • Experience in writing grant proposals
