Job Description
SUMMARY
An earned doctorate or other appropriate terminal degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution in an appropriate filed of study or completion of all requirements for the doctorate in an accredited institution except the dissertation. For persons hired after January 1, 1986 who do not hold the appropriate terminal degree or its equivalent, no reappointment shall be made to the fourth year unless the Board of Trustees determines that for rare and exceptional reasons reappointment is necessary to support the mission of the University. The requirement of an earned doctorate or other appropriate terminal degree or its equivalent for promotion to the rank of Assistant Professor shall not apply to faculty members employed in the Colleges/Universities prior to February 22, 1974.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Assistant Professor with expertise in Data Science. Preference will be given to candidates with publications in Data Science also extending in other areas of Computing. Teaching experience in the area is a plus. Activities required of all faculty members include teaching, curriculum development, grant writing, research, recruitment and retention activities, student advising, service to the School, College and University.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or Statistics with research publications in Data Science, with preference in publications including other areas of Computing. Doctorate must be earned by the time of appointment. Candidates must have strong research and teaching skills. Evidence of successful grant acquisitions or specific plans for grants seeking in the future will also be considered. Candidates are encouraged to include documentation of teaching ability.

SCHOOL OF COMPUTING
In 2023 Montclair State University established the School of Computing to better serve its students and research activities in the area of Computing. Housed in the recently renovated Center for Computing and Information Sciences, the School of Computing strives for excellence in teaching, scholarly research, and service for the creation and dissemination of problem-solving knowledge and skills through computing and information technology. The School’s vision is the continuation and expansion of its role as the source of fundamental and pervasive computational thinking for the 21st century at Montclair State University. Currently there are 28 tenure-track and 6 non-tenure track faculty in the School of Computing serving a student population of over 1,100 students seeking degrees in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Applied Mathematics and Statistics.
