      Position Description: ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

      The Department of Political Science in the College of Social Sciences at UH Manoa seeks applications from interested and qualified candidates for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank who specializes in Security Studies, with a focus on security broadly conceived. We seek scholars of security studies from a variety of approaches. We welcome scholars with interdisciplinary training and research experience.

      Duties: Candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in International Relations and Global Politics, advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, develop, conduct, and publish high-quality research, seek extramural funding, sustain strong community relations for teaching and research purposes, and participate in Departmental, University, and professional activities, with a particular focus on developing partnerships to advance our International Relations research area, as well as other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.

      Minimum qualifications:

      1. Ph.D. in Political Science or a relevant field before August 1, 2023. ABDs will be considered only if all degree requirements will be met before August 1, 2023. ABDs must submit a letter from their committee chair attesting that the dissertation and all degree requirements will be completed prior to the date of hire.
      2. Demonstrated ability to teach topics in or related to International Relations, Security Studies, or War Studies.
      3. Demonstrated record of excellence in research.
      Desirable qualifications:
      1. Teaching experience with innovative educational strategies and attentive to issues of diversity.
      2. Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team in cooperative endeavors.
      3. Ability to supplement the International Relations concentration with a focus that can include one or more of the following: Asia-Pacific, Pacific Islands, China, Northeast Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Korean Peninsula, Oceania, Critical Security Studies, Critical Intelligence Studies, Feminist Security Studies, War Studies, Critical Military Studies, Geopolitics, cyber security, information warfare, Disinformation, Climate Change, Environmental security, Human security, Food security, Infrastructure Studies/Security, Water security, Piracy, Maritime Security, Decolonial IR, Nuclear Politics, Outer Space, Peace Studies, Demilitarization, Global Studies, Surveillance Studies, Futures Studies, Science and Technology Studies, and Island Politics and Security.
      Salary range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
