      Description

      University Overview: MidAmerica Nazarene University (MNU) is a private, liberal arts university with a variety of undergraduate, graduate, and adult education programs, accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Located in the Kansas City metropolitan area, MNU seeks to educate students to serve with purpose within the educational context of the liberal arts, and a Wesleyan-holiness theological perspective.       Job Summary: To coordinate the University’s efforts to serve the churches within the North Central Field and present the mission and vision of the University to the church constituents.

      Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

      Church Relations:

      • Supervise and coordinate the University’s interaction with the field, districts, churches, and clergy (i.e. Academics, Admissions, Alumni, Athletics, Fine Arts, President’s Office, Public Relations Groups, Dept. of Christian Ministry and Formation, Student Development, University Advancement and University Communications) including a calendar of all church related activities, events, and visits.
      • Coordinate with the President’s Office all field, district, and congregational activities that require University representation (e.g., District Assembly, Leadership Retreats).
      • Represent the University’s interest and initiatives in church relations on appropriate standing and ad hoc administrative committees.
      • Initiate and coordinate with University entities appropriate administrative involvement with and recognition of field, district, and local church groups who are visiting on campus or at University sponsored events off-campus.
      • Coordinate with the President’s Office appropriate presidential engagement with regional, district, and local church groups and clergy who are visiting on campus.
      • Monitor and encourage financial contributions from Churches of the Nazarene on the North Central Region to the University through their educational allocations of income raised for all purposes.
      • Align annual church relations goals with the University’s strategic objectives and goals
      • Prepare, supervise, and monitor all assigned budgets.
      • Schedule and supervise the use of the Pastor’s Guest Apartment in Uphaus Residence Hall and develop programs for pastors in residence and retreats.
      • Plan and coordinate events on campus with the President and/or Dept. of Christian Ministry and Formation for the purpose of enhancing church relations and constituent engagement.
      • Partner with District Superintendents, Board of Ministry, and the Department of Christian Ministry and Formation to discern needs and opportunities for collaboration in ministerial education, lay training, and lifelong learning for pastors.
      • Assist the President’s Office with other appropriate tasks as requested.

      Pioneer Trek:

      • Lead the Pioneer Trek program, which is designed to curate experiential opportunities linked to three areas of travel, learning, and service:
        1. Local, domestic, and international travel linked to mission focused work and service.
        2. Local, domestic, and international travel linked to vocational preparation and service.
        3. International study abroad travel linked to enriching learning experiences at other CCCU and Church of the Nazarene affiliated locations.
      • Plans and collaborates with MNU departments to set annual calendar for all trips (i.e. airline tickets, vehicles, documentation, insurance, travel policies, travel agency, trip fees, etc.)
      • Identify partnership opportunities with Nazarene Missions International
      • Manages application and approval processes for all participants and trips
      • Develops a program of pre- and post-trip reflection opportunities and multicultural sensitivity training that helps form students to be thoughtful servants in the global mission of the church
      • Additional duties may be assigned.

      Qualifications


      Qualifications/Skills Required:

      • Ordination with the Church of the Nazarene.
      • The individual must possess appropriate organizational skills for program and event planning, supervision, and evaluation.
      • The individual must possess personal management skills including those which engender personal initiative and enable the wise and effective use of one’s time and energy.
      • The individual must possess adequate verbal and written communication skills commensurate with the professional and public nature of assignments.
      • Ability and experience in preaching and teaching in church context is preferred.

      Education and/or Experience:

      • A graduate degree is preferred, with additional preference given to persons with a graduate theological degree.
      • Substantive ministry experience in church ministry is required.
      • Experience in ministerial education is preferred.
      • Curriculum and instructional experience in a variety of educational modalities is preferred.

      Physical Demands: While much of the job does not require significant physical labor, there is travel by automobile required within the region and some light lifting and set-up of display materials.

      Work Environment: The work environment is a flexible, varied one. While there is an established office, the context of the Assistant to the President includes interaction in other offices on campus and in a variety of church and conference settings.
