Position Summary The Chief Operating Officer will have direct oversight of Arnold Palmer Hospital's support services and general services. They will ensure areas of responsibility meet quality, strategic, customer service, budget, financial and business development goals, and also assist in developing new business strategies to enhance market share, add new service lines and improve overall performance. Additionally, the Chief Operating Officer will identify opportunities and communicate them to the hospital leadership team. About Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children Located on the downtown Orlando Health campus, Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children has been providing compassionate care to the children, teenagers and young adults of Central Florida for more than 30 years. With 156 licensed beds and a team of experts in more than 30 pediatric specialties, the hospital has earned a “Best Children’s Hospitals” recognition by U.S. News & World Report for 14 consecutive years and has been named a Top Children’s Hospital by the patient-advocacy Leapfrog Group. Responsibilities Work with management team and medical staff leadership, serving as a resource, to help reduce costs, enhance revenues, achieve effective integration and quality goals and objectives, analyze and utilize information to develop and support management decisions. Develop and foster effective collaboration between departments, Medical staff leadership and affiliated partners to ensure an integrated approach to providing services. Provide management oversight for the development of high quality, cost-effective and integrated clinical programs within the hospital. Provide leadership in seeking and receiving physician input regarding hospital operations. Take the lead in responding to physician complaints, issues, ideas and recommendations. Assist with implementing medical staff growth and development plans and physician recruitment strategies. Interface with medical staff leadership. Promote positive and effective physician relations. Prepare financial projections for new projects, capital expenditures, or proposed changes in hospital operations. Develop and manage the hospital’s key performance indicators (i.e., critical success factors) and provide leadership in improving finance and operations using such indicators. Analyze variances from budget and provides leadership to managers in preparing action plans to correct variances. Interact with physicians in support of operational goals including understanding physician needs and educating physicians in the hospital’s financial dynamics. Update and manage the preparation of the hospital’s 5 year strategic plan in coordination with the Corporate Finance department. Provide leadership and educates other hospital team members regarding financial management and reporting. Provide direction, development and coaching to direct reports. Oversee support services personnel to include hiring, performance planning, evaluations, assignments and disciplinary actions. Develop and maintain effective collaboration between hospital and corporate functions to ensure an integrated, patient first approach to providing services to patients, guests and team members. Ensure safety, health, and regulatory standards are maintained in all departments and operations for areas of responsibility. Determine resource requirements and ensure efficient use of resources; prepare budgets; determine and forecast capital and equipment needs for all areas of responsibility. Develop and maintain an effective relationship between Hospital Administration and Orlando Health corporate operations. Assist with coverage of the Administrative Call schedule. Serve as a key member of medical and planning committees of the facility and corporation. Provide direction for business and strategic goals as it relates to areas of responsibility. Represent the hospital to the external market through appropriate community relations and marketing activities. Qualifications Education Masters of Business Administration (MBA) or Masters of Health Administration (MHA) required. Experience A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in hospital management in a hospital of similar complexity required.
