      Job Description Summary:

      The Assistant/Associate Dean for the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) is responsible for oversight, management, and leadership of all aspects of student affairs services (including student recruitment, admissions, enrollment management, student onboarding/orientation, advising and progression, clinical placements, student support, and graduation activities) for undergraduate and graduate students in the KU School of Nursing. The director facilitates a positive student experience from pre-nursing advising through graduation. The Assistant/Associate Dean will establish efficiencies in operational processes and will assure compliance with all KUMC policies and relevant government and accrediting body regulations. The Assistant/Associate Dean will promote productive and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders and will support a culture of inclusion, respect, collegiality, and kindness within the OSA office in concert with School leadership, faculty, students, and staff.

      Job Description:

      Key Roles and Responsibilities

      Staff Management & Leadership

      • Serve as the direct manager for OSA staff (orientation, coaching, annual performance evaluations, professional development, disciplinary actions).

      • Provide vision, leadership, and strategic planning related to recruitment, admissions, enrollment, student progression, retention, and graduation.

      • Serve as a member of the Dean’s Leadership team, providing feedback and support for the mission of the school.

      Strategic Planning & Operations

      • Develop and implement annual and long-term operating plans and budgets for the OSA.

      • Collaborate with the SON Communications Director to utilize marketing and market analysis to guide recruitment strategy and materials.

      • Participate in and lead SON, KUMC, University of Kansas, and/or KBOR committees as assigned by the Dean of the School of Nursing.

      Compliance & Policy Management

      • Assure compliance with KUMC policies and applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

      • Manage academic and non-academic misconduct processes for KU School Nursing, ensuring adherence to policy, guidelines, and due process.

      Student Services & Support

      • Oversee support of clinical placements and clinical compliance for all SON students.

      • Manage SON scholarship application and selection processes.

      • Oversee SON ceremonies and events, including new student orientation and the annual commencement ceremony.

      Data Management & Reporting

      • Assure that necessary electronic data collection, storage, and retrieval systems are implemented and used appropriately by personnel.

      • Assist with the collection of student outcomes and attribute data, and participate in the preparation of reports for accreditation, national surveys, and other purposes.

      Required Qualifications

      Education:

      • Graduate degree in student services, education, or a related field or discipline with an emphasis on student development and success

      Work Experience:

      • Minimum 5 years’ experience in higher education student affairs, reflecting progressively increased responsibility.

      • Minimum 3 years’ experience supervising professional and/or student staff.

      • Evidence of supporting a culture of psychological safety.

      Preferred Qualifications

      Work Experience:

      • Experience and/or education in organizational behavior and leadership.

      • Knowledge of health professions, most desirably nursing curriculum, programming, and career opportunities.

      • Experience in change and/or project management.

      Compensation Statement:

      The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
