      Description:

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Toronto, Temerty Faculty of Medicine in partnership with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at St. Michael's Hospital, Unity Health Toronto (UHT), is currently recruiting one (1) full-time qualified academic core Obstetrician and Gynaecologist as a Clinician Teacher. This position represents an opportunity for establishing a busy, professionally rewarding and challenging group clinical practice with dedicated healthcare professionals in an attractive and expanding hospital facility with a supportive and progressive administration. The anticipated start date is April 1st, 2024, or at a subsequent mutually agreeable date.

The successful candidate will practice both Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Clinical responsibilities will include Obstetrics and Gynaecology outpatient clinics, surgical gynecology, in-house obstetrical and gynaecology on-call. It is required that the candidate take an interest in developing greater expertise in any one of the following areas in order to support the department in providing ongoing access to care: perinatal substance use, early pregnancy management, vulvodynia, pessary care or mature women's health. Support for additional training is available depending on the successful candidate's preferred area of interest.

The successful candidate will have an academic position description of Clinician Teacher and must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor at the University of Toronto. Evidence of excellence in teaching and academic work is required.

The successful candidate must hold an MD degree, must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Obstetrics and Gynaecology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) and must be eligible for medical licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). In alignment with the UHT strategic plan, we are particularly committed to excelling in the care of those experiencing disadvantage for the "Best care experiences. Created together." The department provides learning experiences for fellows, obstetrics and gynaecology residents, family practice residents, interns, medical students, and students of nursing and midwifery. Enthusiastic participation in all levels of our teaching and education mandate is expected from the successful candidate.

The Department currently has a total of 18 faculty members: 7 are MIGS fellowship-level trained obstetrician-gynaecologists, 6 core obstetrician-gynaecologists, 1 urogynaecologist, and 4 maternal fetal medicine subspecialists. The hospital aims to perform approximately 3,000 deliveries per year and our obstetrical activities are fully supported by a level 2C neonatal intensive care unit. A new state-of-the-art NICU will be moved to the recently completed Peter Gilgan Tower and plans are underway to renovate and re-purpose the space occupied by the current NICU for expansion of the labour and birth unit.

This position is funded by fee-for-services through the Ministry of Health with an estimated gross annual compensation greater than $200,000, as well as commensurate with qualifications and experience.
