      Assisted Living Director- Position Summary

      The Assisted Living Director is accountable for the overall management and operational success of the assisted living neighborhood. This role encompasses a range of responsibilities, including but not limited to the recruitment, hiring, and training of Resident Assistants. The Director will also oversee team member recognition, conduct annual performance evaluations, and provide continuous coaching and counseling to team members. Additional duties include facilitating resident care conferences and ensuring the completion of the team member staffing schedule in accordance with established budgetary guidelines.

      It is expected that the Assisted Living Director will fulfill any required training and attain proficiency in American House standards, service principles, and relevant policies and procedures. As the primary leader of the assisted living neighborhood, the Director is responsible for fostering and maintaining a positive and supportive atmosphere for residents, families, visitors, and team members alike.

      Qualifications and Required Experience for Assisted Living Director:

      • One (1) year experience in long term care, group home, assisted living, the hospital industry, or other human services field
      • Supervisory and management experience
      • Ability to handle multiple priorities
      • Able to direct the work of others
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
      • Good communication skills
      • Experience with seniors preferred
      • Possesses the ability to effectively read, write, and communicate effectively
      • Able to make responsible choices and decisions and act in a resident’s best interest
      • Experience and comfort working with people living with dementia

      Primary Responsibilities for Assisted Living Directors:

      • Manage all day-to-day activities of the Resident Assistants
      • 24/7 Responsibility of their team and the proper delivery of Activities of Daily Living
      • Assisted Living Directors ensures the highest quality of customer service is available for our residents.
      • Create and maintain a high level of resident and employee satisfaction.
      • Participate and help ensure the successful completion of the Welcome Home program for new residents.
      • Updated knowledge and industry trends to keep your community in the mainstream regarding services, amenities, and competition.
      • Proficiency with software applications/programs/tools used by American House.
      • Assist in developing and achieving the operating budget.
      • Maintain regulatory compliance where applicable.
      • Capability to assume Executive Director responsibilities
      • Take part in the observations and support of meal service in the Assisted Living dining room. Supervising residents to ensure their wellbeing and safety, while maintaining the highest level of service
      • When Memory Care is an included product type of the community, the Assisted Living Director will partner with the Memory Care Director with recruiting, training and retaining Resident Assistants
      • Be familiar with and practice the job duties listed in the Executive Director Manual.
      • Hire and supervise employees, ensuring adequate staffing.
      • Responsible for knowing all information in the employee-handbook.
      • Communicate regularly with families and physicians as necessary.

      • Foster teamwork and collaboration
      • Partner with Executive Director and Wellness Director to ensure accuracy and delivery of each Resident Care Plan at the highest standard
      • Consistently communicate and engage with Memory Care Director and community leadership when care needs of Residents change and require a transition to an alternative product type
      • Celebrating individual and team accomplishments
      • Maintain a strong sense of accountability
      • Champion safety and awareness between staff and residents
      • Participate in weekend manager-on-duty rotation
      • Schedule monthly visits during evening and night shifts
      • Establish strong, meaningful relationships with residents and their family members through routine communication, accessibility, ownership and accountability

      Recruiting, Hiring and Training:

      • Work closely with the Executive Director to develop and implement an effective, ongoing recruitment strategy
      • Participate in group and one-on-one interview process. Facilitate the job shadowing process for any new candidates prior to hiring
      • Work with the Business Office Manager to ensure the following are completed and satisfactory prior to hiring:
        • Reference checks
        • A criminal background check
        • Participate in the ongoing structured orientation program for all new team members. Ensure all new team members complete the Star Gate Orientation upon hire
      • Provide regular, on-going training as necessary for team members
      • Support the Memory Care Director in hiring and determining optimal assignments for Resident Assistants

      Leadership:

      • Provide daily coaching and support to care managers in the assisted living neighborhoods
      • Lead by example, being visible, involved and accessible
      • Facilitate and/or attend

        • Cross-Over Meetings
        • Weekly Department Head Meetings
        • Town Meetings
