      Overview

      The Asian American Center (AAC) was founded in 1983 as a space and resource for Tufts students and community members to foster a supportive environment for the academic and personal development of students in the Asian and Asian American community.

      Asian American Center recognizes the diversity within the Asian American identity and other intersecting identities in the Tufts community, and advocates for students to have a successful college experience.

      In collaboration with students, staff, faculty, and alumni, the AAC coordinates year-round programs and offers resources for the transition to college, provides social opportunities to learn from and engage with peers, and informs students of campus events and opportunities. The AAC is part of the Division of Student Diversity and Inclusion (DSDI) which aims to center diversity, inclusion, and equity issues on campus to support historically marginalized communities.


      What You'll Do

      Under limited supervision, the Associate Center Director applies subject matter expertise to develop, implement, supervise, and evaluate quality programs on issues related to multiple intersecting identities (i.e., gender, class, disability, sexual orientation, citizenship/nationality). The Associate Center Director will:

      • Collaborate with a represent the center with student-facing resources and departments including other identity-based resources, residential life and learning, Counseling and Mental Health Services, faculty, and the departments within and beyond the division.
      • Collaborate with the Center Director to complete all projects and programs connected to the Asian American Center.
      • Develops goals, strategies, and infrastructure in collaboration with Director, to support and advance programs that promote scholarship and leadership within an affirming campus climate for marginalized and underrepresented student populations.
      • Facilitates conversations and peer-to-peer education through the development of the Peer Leader Program, a program focused on assisting first-year and transfer students’ transition to life on Tufts’s campus
      • Assists in the development and implementation of student leadership programs, coordinates, and mentors student leaders with a student-centered approach.
      • Provides individual student support and counseling and advises student organizations affiliated with the center.

      What We're Looking For

      Basic Requirements:

      • Knowledge and skills as typically acquired by a Bachelor’s degree; superb judgment, demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial and oral and written communication skills;
      • 5 years relevant experience supporting student growth and development within an educational setting, preferably within a selective university or liberal arts college environment;
      • Awareness of how social identities will impact the experience of college students; strong background in understanding issues impacting the experience of students historically underrepresented at Tufts, including students of color, first-generation and undocumented students; and an awareness of various models for identity-based resource centers.
      • Demonstrated sensitivity, imagination, and effectiveness in developing educational and community programs; facility in designing programs and resources that consider cultural constructions of race as it intersects with gender, class, ethnicity, sexual identity, religion, and ability.

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Master’s degree preferred with 3+ years related experience

      Special Work Schedule Requirements:

      This position requires on campus in-person interactions as well as availability outside of regularly scheduled hours for emergency response.


      Pay Range

      Minimum $64,550.00, Midpoint $80,700.00, Maximum $96,850.00


      Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
